Not totally wrong, but the GOPe tried to ratfuck Trump and he poo poo all over them for it and I think his supporters will be energized by the exchange. The divide between outsiders and insiders just got deepened by a lot.

i doubt trump drops a lot here, but i don't think he goes up at all either.
the real long-term effect to trump's campaign is saying things like "planned parenthood does wonderful work" and "george w bush lied about iraq" which are going to hurt him later on. he's not really earning any new supporters and every time he says some of that poo poo a small number of his existing supporters abandon him.

Idk dude. As long as he can retain a healthy majority of angry GOP voters vs the rest of the field poo poo like this only helps him in the general.

There's some believable talk that the whole reason he entered this was to skullfuck Jeb! because he holds grudges like nobody's business, and Jeb ratfucked him out of building a casino in FL after Trump donated a bunch to him

You know, I'd believe this. Trump clearly didn't enter this race with any intent to win. However, as events have mounted, he's proven adaptable to the idea that he might be a real candidate. I think this debate might be what proves it, he finally feels that he is in a position of strength and can afford to expend his political capital on simply tearing at the jugular of those whom he considers his true enemies, rather than simply relishing an opportunity to rant and complain while having people listen to him.

i don't think so, this might give the establishment guys a little more ammo but i don't think it will hurt trump's ability to draw in supporters much. his supporters don't care about statements like those

I don't understand why people think Trump would drop out to be third party until it's really over. He's spending his own money and gets to be on TV (his favorite thing in the world) and say whatever he wants. Running as an independent he's still spending his own money and he's not getting on TV to yell about things and be on front pages of newspapers.

It doesn't fit his priorities (vanity) at all. Blowing up the entire party platform into a smoking crater gives him a lot more ink and a lot more sound bites for his dollars.

i disagree, nobody who doesn't already support trump is going to leap over to him because of this. democrats and others who already believe these things will never ever vote for trump because of his nativism and because he has come to embody Ultimate Republican Evil in their eyes. any voter for whom these statements are a positive either will support sanders or clinton in the general, or will refuse to vote for trump because of his nativism.

trump's actual, for-real weakness that he could actually lose ground on is that he has no core principles at all and has a history of advocating stuff that's way too far left for the base to accept, so stuff that he says that supports that could actually hurt him.
