Detheros posted:It's also good at reminding me how terrible I am at these games. Watching Beaglerush play XCOM 2 has shown me that the game is kind of...unfinished. Lots of graphical glitches that hinder gameplay (he couldn't do a VIP rescue because the hacking console window glitched through the truck) and corners cut to make gameplay easier (LoS that allows you to shoot through buildings). So I'm excited to see the next part of the new reimagined XCOM but I wish they had worked on it a little bit more.

It turns out living is harder than we thought. I've had some rude surprises with XCOM2 so far. I'm not good so for my first game I have been save scumming viciously. Hooray, I got promoted. Exalt is really drat rude though. It seems pretty rough to have a mechanic that taxes your difficult budget further without an obviously tangible benefit.

The four man missions are the worst, especially if you're ever caught in a firefight. Except that time I brought a Goliath and a Jaeger along with two rocketeers.

Being able to carry your bleeding out soldiers away is nice when both your medkits fall over. X-Com loves random punishment for no benefit. Controlling when you activate is still pretty important in 2.

I swear, light missions are just an excuse for the game to go "ok, well we don't have many aliens to work with, so let's make them awkward buggers."

I really like the particle trails on the Cyberdisc's cannons. It's a very cool-looking effect. I wish our guns fired like that. Did we ever figure out what happen that one EXALT sniper was using several missions ago? It looked like a sniper taser or something. That was cool too.

That first pod of sectoids had the best idle animations. The way they were huddled together it just looked like they were rolling some bones with that gooed-up corpse as the stake.

Affi, I love you man but you're really spoiling some of the surprises that LW has in store for people that haven't played it that far. Having played through vanilla I know all the aliens etc but you're really just dropping what we'll be seeing in things like base assualts and how ridiculous terror missions can get apparently in the future. The enthusiasm is really cool and I do usually enjoy hearing how other players are doing in LW, but can you try and keep the stuff you talk about to things we have already experienced in the LP so far? I'm not speaking for the rest of the thread, just myself personally.

Is Collateral Damage a good choice on Goliaths, or is there another MEC class that it makes more sense to give it to? I know Shogun are kind of the 'cover destruction' specialists...

So I found Beaglerush's build spreadsheet the other day. Very interesting to see his exact squad breakdown for every type of mission. Also interesting to see how his way of building soldiers compares and contrasts to Booty's. It really takes a unique mind to conduct the strategic aspects of this game as opposed to the barest tactical layers. I'm a very aggressive player but I only think 1-2 moves ahead so I might be able to clear 3 mutons out with my squad but forget about the pod that busts down the door the next turn and lights my rear end up since all of my soldiers are out of position.

Youtube Link I made a spreadsheet that I plan on putting my builds on, you can find it here. These are the scout builds I plan on using for the campaign unless I suddenly think of a crazy idea. As other classes reach Master Sergeant, I'll add to it. EggsAisle posted:Did we ever figure out what happen that one EXALT sniper was using several missions ago? I know Shogun are kind of the 'cover destruction' specialists... I've never really used Collateral Damage in any of my games. I would say its worth it if you find yourself lacking cover destruction from other means, for example: I would consider taking collateral damage on MECs for when I go on most landed/crashed UFOs, because I find myself taking support engineers over sapper engineers. edit: Fixed banner ProfessorBooty fucked around with this message at 16:39 on Feb 12, 2016 |

Your important rockets always seem to land I'm playing Long War because of this LP and having a great time but my dead rookies list is a mile long and none of my really vital rockets ever hit where they should. Even steadied with less than 1 scatter they always veer off. I had a specialist rocketeer blow herself up because her rocket went to the absolute limit of the scatter. She lived though! Worst mission so far was when I was sneaking up on a stationary pod, used the motion tracker and determined a second pod was about to flank me so turned around to engage. Had them on the ropes and then the stationary pod turned out to not actually be stationary after all and took our flank. Lost some promising people because there was just nowhere to hide. It was the tank map. Abort abort abort It's only May!

Yay I'm psychic! Too bad I can't be a MEC but I think I'll survive. Nice to see the game continuing. Can I ask how you're doing overall? I know you had a slow start, but it seems like you're doing ok right now, especially in your air game.

Every time Booty loses a shiv on a mission, I imagine a mangled AI core coming back from the mission going, "I helped!" Now I'm picturing a group of shivs moving around the ant farm like Tachikomas annoying Dr. Shen and just causing general mischief. Please fix the little guys. Tachikomas are my fwiends.

So my game has started crashing regularly during the enemy turn. Just as an enemy is moving it just goes to desktop. I think maybe it has to do with the sightlines mod I installed, the same one Professor is using. Could that be it? Has anyone had similar issues?

The sightlines mod is probably the #1 LW mod and is pretty reliable. Maybe try checking the game using Steam and then reinstalling LW.

Affi posted:So my game has started crashing regularly during the enemy turn. Just as an enemy is moving it just goes to desktop. Is this something spanning multiple missions? If so, are you engaged with a particular type of enemy? Does it seem to happen when you bring a particular squad setup? Finally, are you playing this on Mac or Linux? If there is some sort of repeatable or predictable pattern I would submit this as a bug on the nexus feedback (provide the save file). If this just barely started happening on one mission I would remove the sightlines mod and see if that fixes things, and if it doesn't I would type '\killaliens' (assuming dev console is installed) to finish the mission and just hope it doesn't happen again. Finally, I can take a look at the save file myself and see if it crashes on my system. When I played Long War on linux there was this very weird behavior where the game would have a neverending alien activity phase with thin men - particularly thin men with seekers. That happened on this playthrough as a matter of fact. I'm not sure it was fixed but I finally bit the bullet and just installed windows, given that there were a bunch of windows-only games I felt like playing anyway. Just started watching this LP, and I think this is one of the best VLPs I've ever seen. I personally never got into X-Com, but my best buddy in college loved the game, so it's great to finally see someone really good at the game slowly explain it mission-by-mission. ProfessorBooty and Kidneyman have really good complementary personalities. It seems that Professor is a bit more aggressive and Kidneyman likes a slower more careful approach, so it's great to listen to them discuss strategy, sound out ideas, and (occasionally) get snippy at each other. It's like Holmes and Dr. Watson. I'm sad that I wasn't here for the beginning, and I'm only on Mission 22, so there's still a lot to watch before I get caught up, but I'm definitely looking forward to being here for the rest of this playthrough.
