Mission 1 below ------------------------------------------- Dinictus's thoughts on Cedric's favorite past time, and new nickname: Wheany is going to get rich by teaching our snipers one weird trick. I streamed XCOM 2! Here it is: Part 1 | Youtube Link Part 2 | Youtube Link Part 3 | Youtube Link Part 4 | Youtube Link ------------------------------------------- Mission 1 and Base Management 1(Please forgive the 'hollow' audio. It will sound like this for this video, and video 2. I'm changing audio recording methods which should improve voices (Except for Kidneyman's, because it seems like his voice is perfect no matter HOW I record it.) First thing we do is choose where we want our base. Each country gives a small bonus (or you can choose no bonus), and all continent bonuses are only earned on full satellite coverage. Bonuses Bonuses are there to tweak difficulty, and aren't really balanced against each other. From what I understand, some bonuses are there to offset how bad it is to perform interceptions in that country (such as Australia and Russia). I'm choosing Mexico's Legacy of Uxmal, this is because I'm pretty confident of my game on Classic Difficulty, and it should also reduce the grind in the late game. I can also get Air Superiority before the end of the first month. There's a couple sneaky bonuses that seem great but probably aren't, such as Canada's Advanced Preparations: This bonus prevents you from getting full satellite coverage unless you tear down one of the buildings near the beginning, if you don't tear down the buildings, then your adjacency bonuses later will suffer. Abilties Showcase Gunner v. Rocketeer The heavy class has been split into gunners and rocketeers. The gunner class is one of those 'always good' classes, because even if your aim is junk, you can still suppress bad guys. Typically I use my gunners for officers, and they provide an amazing base of fire. I see three or four viable builds in the gunner. I typically make 2.5 builds, that is, officer gunners have some of the properties of anti-armor gunners, but with more defensive/tank options. There's the full on offensive anti-armor gunner, and the 'bullet wizard' shredder gunner. The gunner is an almost mandatory class for any squad. I try to have at least five anti-armor gunners in the roster, four of which will be officers. The Rocketeer class isn't bad, it just requires a little bit of TLC to get it going, with this in mind I typically avoid making specialist rocketeers. Three great paths for the rocketeer: The rifleman path, the overwatch path, and the 'rocket-teer'(All rockets all the time), and every one of these classes has access to some sort of aim buffing perk (Fire in the Hole and/or Platform stability). A difference between prior betas is that any rocketeer path can take HEAT warheads, and shooting a rocket grants 1 mobility, and taking the 'shock and awe' perk (2 free rockets) doesn't keep you from getting perks like Danger Zone. I personally prefer better rifleman over better rocketeers as explosives tend to destroy artifacts and corpses. Scout v. Sniper Classes that can be played completely opposite from each other, or very similar to each other. The Scout in this case is extremely good early game, and can help keep a squad of rookies on the offensive, by busting through overwatch with lightning reflexes. The sniper is a great class, but needs aim buffing items and good forethought to use correctly. Interestingly, the sniper starts with 'squadsight' instead of 'head shot' (or, in long war, precision shot). Gives you insight in to what Firaxis believes snipers do (one-shot enemies) versus the Long War devs (shoot from far away). I use scouts almost the entire game, I don't care what the haters have to say, but with the beta 15 changes I'm not certain my exact plan with them. It seems we have crit scouts, support scouts, and scouty-scouts. Snipers are great, but need a little push to be especially useful (aim buffing items especially). Three basic classes I use: The Crit sniper, the Disabling sniper, and the In the Zone monster sniper. Engineer v. Medic Engineers are kind of the 'super rookie' class at specialist. They get to carry four grenades, which means they're always good. Later on they can move on to support engineers, 'extra explodey' (sapper) engineers, and dedicated anti-armor engineers. I prefer support engineers, but I'll build a combination of support engineers and sapper engineers. Medics are important, I love medics, but in the early game its much more important to train people up. If I have to take a relatively experienced squad, I'll likely opt to take a new guy with medkits over a medic, unless its a long-haul mission, such as a landed large UFO. Once I increase squad size the medics take a more permanent role. I'm still working out what to do with the new medic tree, but the intended paths seem to be the rifleman medic, support medic, and Medic Medic. I'll likely do support medics and combination rifleman/Medic medics. Infantry v. Assault In this case, the assault is the 'always good' class, but run 'n gun can get you in trouble if you're not careful. When I'm starting to take specialists on missions, I try to have at least one assault, and because they tend to get hurt more often than other classes that means I'm pulling six or seven assaults by the end of the second month. There are likely many intended paths for the assault, but I stick with the 'Crit assault', and the 'Hybrid tank assault' (as opposed to full-tank assault). I start with hybrid tanks exclusively, start building crit assaults, then near the end game go back to the hybrids. The assault class is drat good and can pretty much carry your squad. Infantry are amazing soldiers, and start with 'Light 'em up' (Vanilla's bulletswarm). This means their early game accuracy can be offset by sheer volume of fire, provided they are positioned well. I tend to make two infantry officers, and I have three classes, the 'officer' infantry, which is a hybrid of the 'overwatch' infantry, who, as you can guess, has a good overwatch, then finally the 'critfantry', which was my favourite type of infantry in beta 14, but with the changes to aim I'm not so sure now. Both the Assault and Infantry can be viable at specialist even in the late game - maybe they won't be as amazing, but you don't have to worry about aim when you can just shove the shotgun into a Muton's mouth. -------------- Beta 15b came out after recording this video. Because we're still in the extremely early game, I can upgrade without troubles, and I double-checked that earlier today. We plan on doing some recording this weekend, so please volunteer now so things are more interesting! ProfessorBooty fucked around with this message at 20:54 on Mar 13, 2016 |

I have enough loving trouble with the base game to try playing a harder mod, but I'm looking forward to seeing how you get through this. I wouldn't mind being a redshirt, no preference for class, gender, etc other than to ask that they're australian.

Keepin' an eye on this specifically because I love Beaglerush so goddamn much, but motherfucker LOVES counting. Since I pretty much have my pick of the litter, I'll toss my hat in as a Crit-Monster Sniper. I know it might take a while to see the real killing power, but I'm willing to wait. I love Snipers in the base game. Gender and hair are unimportant to me.

Sign me up for the war for Earth, sir. I am not picky for any sort of classes, but French, Canadian, or French Canadian will be probably appropriate. Mind you, I always wished to become a wizard. A bullet wizard build might be wonderful! Cosmic Afro fucked around with this message at 06:55 on Mar 13, 2015 |

I volunteer as Engineer! For CC, I ask to be a White guy and have the head be the beanie with the googles and the headset (if it's not an option, then a helmet, don't care what kind). Is there a Turkish voice option? If so, then can you use that? If there isn't, then just go with American. SgtSteel91 fucked around with this message at 08:00 on Mar 13, 2015 |

The voice packs in the base game are just from the translated versions - French, German, Spanish, Russian, Italian, and Polish. Long War B15 added some accented voice packs as well - British, Irish, Australian, and I believe a Chinese-accented English pack as well. They're all surprisingly good, since they actually got Firaxis's help with the sound filters. Sadly, no Turkish option though.

Strangely, Turkey was not one of the nations that soldiers could be from the in the vanilla game. Fortunately, Long War adds pretty much every nation on the face of the Earth.

I submit myself to the cause! Whatever soldier type is needed, I'm fine with. But for patriotic reasons, I'd prefer either Scottish, either that or Italian, if the latter is available. P.S.
