I have an idea for a mod, but little to no actual coding experience. How difficult would this be?

I was playing a mission that had a particularly tough batch of enemies at the very end, so I figured I'd just evac out. I'd completed all the objectives except for "kill all enemies," no-one was wounded. At least a victory, right? NOPE. Failure.

I realized, there's no such thing as a stealth run. I'd like to change that. First, get rid of the "Kill all enemies" objectives. Maybe make it tied to if you break concealment or not. Figure out a way to give XP to characters on stealth missions. Makes targets hackable from a distance, and make it so enemies don't alert on a successful hack. Finally, maybe figure out a limited way to bring in stealth kills. For something brutal, silencers are a single use utility item that are made in the proving grounds, and aren't always effective. Otherwise, rangers (and perhaps let other classes carry a sword optionally?)

It's a lot of fun sneaking right behind an enemy patrol, and I love the idea of being able to sneak something out right under their noses without ever going loud.

Berserkers are surprisingly unimpressive enemies. Their melee attack doesn't have a great hit chance, so in the unlikely event you have to eat an attack, just put an Aid Protocol on the person closest to them and they're almost guaranteed to miss.

Chryssalids can gently caress your poo poo up if you get the Infestation Dark Event, they zoom around the map like Sonic the Hedgehog on crack and will happily spot your squad in concealment (and somehow radio it in). And then they get a free attack because gently caress you, that's why! Also they'll corrupt your save if you try to load a save where there is a burrowed Chryssalid on the map.

There is a dark event for them. Advent just dumps chrysalids into all your missions like the faceless event. I have no idea if they are allowed to eat civlians to make more of them. Sounds like a huge problem if they are.

I think chrysalids are more threatning than their EU counterparts but they should show up earlier than they do. Hard to be afraid of them when you're in power armour with plasma.

I gotta say, they really missed an opportunity with Chryssalids. Every other alien got a little human DNA in them, this would have been the perfect opportunity to re-introduce the classic humanoid Chryssalid. Complete with crazy slasher-smile.

I actually realized after finishing this game that I really missed the downed/landed UFO missions. I know we get to do downed medium UFOs in this game and the ADVENT facility/supply raid missions are kind of similar, but drat do I miss running the battleship/supply barge missions. They were always tense as gently caress and the indoor fighting got really heavy.

Human DNA was added to Sectoids to make them stronger.
It was added to Mutons to make them smarter.
They *stopped* adding it to Vipers, and they're a whole new kind of threat for it - still have their guns and poison spit, but now they can grab you with their tongue and crush you in their snake coils.

I really can't see how humanoid Chryssalids would be more dangerous than the regular ones.

An intelligent chrysalid with unique abilities that actually uses tactics rather than blindly rushing your squad. I'd picture them more as a special chrysalid you'd see directing the other ones around to make them even scarier.

Hey baby I think we Havel lot in common
Well - I guess I can say that I'm glad that's over. It had just reached the point where all the missions were getting kind of same-ey, and I could have finished it a lot faster if I hadn't been trying to build up so many troops to Colonel-rank...but not too long, not too short; pretty much just right.

But good lord, you get some powerful combos. I'm pretty sure that I mind controlled every Gatekeeper I ran across, and I will never forget the time that hacking a lightpost gave me control of a random enemy, and it was the sectopod waaay in the back. Good times. But they can't hit poo poo; neither can the gatekeepers.

I only got a chance to blow the fuse on a living target carrying a grenade one time, and it was a muton, so it did like 3 damage to him. Psi troopers are so OP it's quite ridiculous, really. I highly recommend going on a mission with two Psi troopers, three combat hacker specialists with the auto-overwatch ability at the end of a turn, and a gunslinger sharpshooter, with a mix of bluescreen and AP bullets - and skulljack EVERY chance you get. Unstoppable.

I really like the grenadier class more than the heavy weapons guys from XCOM...first of all, they can hit things when they shoot; and second of all they actually made the grenades really useful in this game. The rockets in XCOM 1 were kinda terrible. The rangers in XCOM 2 are pretty sweet, but the blades just don't "cut it..." lol. I never found a use for the Reaper ability, and the first time I tried to slice a muton was the last time I tried to use a sword. It's just not worth it when you can run up to some dude, get an automatic crit blasting them in the face, and then being able to run away. Good effort though on the developers' part to actually make progress towards choices that are meaningful in your build - and the ability to go back and change your mind. Many kudos.

So Now I am done for a while until the inevitable awesome mods - by the way, I just found the 'Stop wasting my time' mod today, and it was glorious. I wish I would have had that a week ago. And someone made a mod with the voice of Boris from Yuri's Revenge; so naturally I had to make a Boris grenadier. Now that I think about it, a sniper would have been more appropriate, but a grenadier running around in red & yellow WAR armor with a hockey mask yelling "BORIS IS HERE!" just really appealed to me.

I've never seen them eat civilians when that Dark Event is running, but I run Scanning Protocol and Grenadiers. However! Gatekeepers actually will intentionally target civilians if there's a cluster of them to zombify. I had one of the funny, "Everyone piled into one area" bug and I watched it wander off before getting a pop up of a bunch if collaborator deaths.

I'm surprised Chrysalids don't do that.

Guardian doesn't work with regular shooting.

I got my "3 alien kills with no explosives in one turn" achievement, not from a Kill Zone sniper as one might expect, but an exceptionally plucky Specialist that dumped his entire rifle clip into a reinforcement pod. The same Specialist also got a Sectopod down to like 5 or 6 health in a UFO recovery mission.

Guardian is definitely a choice pick for my playstyle. Takes some luck, but it covers Kill Zone's weakness against tanky enemies by potentially letting you magdump on them with good Overwatch rolls.

I just wanna say that after 10 straight failed attempts at Commander/Ironman, I just beat the game on a 57% sniper shot to kill the last Avatar.

This was the same campaign where I wiped my budding A-Team on the very first council mission, which until this point meant also wiping the campaign. I technically passed that mission because I dashed the VIP to the evac zone, leading to what I imagine is the most survivor's guilt riddled engineer ever.

10 deaths for the whole deal, 5 of which were in that one mission. Comebacks are real.

Back up to the previous room and get the necessary guys into the elevated high cover and the rest into the remaining high cover. Try not to be too clustered so the Codex don't drain your weapons and just filter all the enemies through the large bridge. And have a Run 'N' Gun Rapid Fire ready for when an Avatar teleports in so you can blast it. And Mind Control the Gatekeepers to tank literally everything, they're so good.

I just had my first go at Commander Ironman and got whipped.

I kept missing a bunch of really easy 70% shots on flanked enemies that left me wincing in pain every time my shots whiffed, and there was still a hint of bad decisions left from my Veteran campaign where making silly moves might have passed. I brought the death clock back from the brink by doing the blacksite mission flawlessly, only bringing a lieutenant, two squaddies and two rookies. After that I realized I was completely hosed and went all in. I was hemorrhaging soldiers and by extension supplies, I survived until early June. Every mission had me losing 2-3 rookies, but I ended up doing much more damage with them than I thought I could.

I'm honestly kind of surprised that they thought that the amount of poo poo they throw at you is okay.

I'm really loving the combat component of the game, and I understand that the game is trying to convey a sense of urgency, but it's really way too much for me and ends up frustrating the hell out of me. I'm the kind of person who likes a challenge, but also wants the option to grind out some more gear/levels if I need to but this game stresses me out way more that I want from a game.

Ideally, I'd like a mod that somehow removes the in-game "timer", making it impossible to "lose" if I take my time. It might not be pure or challenging in the way some people like it, but I just want to have some fun with the combat and different gear without constantly feeling overwhelmed by events and timers and the prospect of having to start again if I gently caress up the metagame. Is there anything like that, yet?

A game should work though, and moving your characters is a pretty big deal as these things go.

My computer has been crashing out of games ever since the new amd update, which has already made me a little touchy I guess.

And it wasn't even the first glitch I ran into in my hour and a half. In my very first mission I had a never ending staredown between a sectoid and a soldier, they kept leaning out of cover to look at each other all dynamically. Lasted quite a while before I had to alt-tab because no buttons worked.

That one was kinda funny though because it looked like they were smooching over and over. It just set me up to be annoyed about how buggy the game is.
