And yet I'd still rather do that again than watch Pell and Dawkins on Q&A.

It's never been fully explained to me why forbidding the Uniting Church or Reform Jews from holding same sex marriage ceremonies isn't a violation of religious liberty.

I do understand that my viewpoint, from the secular society we have, is considered anathema. I really do. I also think that the Marriage Act will change, and probably should change, to reflect the view of the people. I don't see it as "fundamentally destroying marriage", or "ruining the fabric of civilisation" - we've been doing a good enough job of that for the last x-thousand years :-) I'm just trying to put out, as rationally (if you will permit me to use that term here) as possible, the background to the objection of groups such as the ACL. I would hope that the arguments from both sides will be as civil as possible. Ok, I'll make that my last comment for the moment on this. Now, back to politics, and in particular, whinging "whataboutme?" politicians. Ian McDonald is retiring, and having a massive sook at the same time about being stuck on the back benches and not being able to use his towering intellect for the forces of truth, justice and the multinational way. Poor baby, you'd never think he was elected to represent his electorate in any way...

Once again everyone in policy making positions has forgotten that there is already a solution that doesn't involve a balance of carrot and stick: you need town planners. Seperated bike lanes, traffic calming in suburban streets, linking up bike paths, and designing places like shops, business etc to be bicycle accessible makes riding safer. The helmet is just a bonus.

Who cares about fop. It is pointless to argue about because a) No normal perosn will be offended by the word, and b) "Bop the fop" is a really stupid, contrived catchphrase that will never gain traction with anyone.
