What's the chance of Firaxis fixing the performance issues? I'm turned off from buying the game because of the widely talked about QA issues. Which is weird because Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within ran as smooth as butter.

EU had its own share of jank on release though. They had time to smooth things out and EW managed to not break too much. Hopefully it's the same story here.

Wouldn't be tricky really: Dude goes to the Gene Therapy Clinic. ADVENT doc says "Hey, scans are showing a predisposition towards bowel cancer, we can totally fix that for you, it's just a quick shot. By the way, your genetic markers also suggest you'd be a good candidate for our Human+™ ADVENTBody™. You'd be obliged to serve for five years as an ADVENT soldier or civil engineer and there would be some visual changes, but you would gain immunity to most diseases - including all flus, Parkinson's, and 90% of known cancers - and the average lifespan is projected to be 120." Dude signs up.

Anyone else amused by the "To Serve Man" region bonus? It's from a Twilight Zone episode that serves as a double entendre and potentially triple entendre if we think of it as an homage to the original X-COM games being meat grinders for rookies.Zoran posted:My Colonel Grenadier in the last game consistently set herself on fire with Saturation Fire. Think I need to rush predator armor over mag weapons next time. mag weapons may help you kill guys, but loving SURVIVING is kind of important, as is the second item slot. Plus, it's a unilateral upgrade that affects all classes and thus is cheaper overall to implement first.

So, thinking on Laboratories. They suck, you finish the tech tree waaay before any boost in research would be needed. Replace the increased research speed, strip it out entirely. Any scientists you put in there slow your research as well. In exchange, each one you put in there lowers your scan time by 12-24 hours per scan. The lab itself increases odds of scan targets popping up. Replace the 20% increased continent research bonus with boosted scan sites.

Game starts me out next to one of those ADVENT pill boxes. I'm worried there might be an enemy behind it, despite being so close to spawn, so I moved someone to check it from the far side. As soon as they move they reveal that no, there are no aliens behind it. Instead, there's a muton and stun lancer sitting on top of it. I have no clue how we didn't have vision of them. I think it was literally impossible for me to move from my spawn position without losing concealment. Fun. EDIT: uhhhhhhhhhhhh What the flying gently caress is going on here? It depends how much you rely on utility - the extra inventory slot means less cover and tools to deal with oh poo poo moments, like mimic beacons and scanners, while retaining frags for every pod. I think it's an interesting call and won't be the same in every playthrough. Replace labs with a Ops Planning room that can be staffed with engies, scientists or soldiers to generate intel. I never even built one and was down on scientists and still felt ahead of the science curve on commander.

Even more than MECs, I miss alien interrogations. I guess I didn't consider they wouldn't be in the game but by the time Shen and Tygan commented on the Faceless I sorta realized. I'd really like to see an expanded tech tree with interrogations. With all the new toys we have, and the improved melee stuff, knocking enemies out should be easier than ever.

That final mission was tons of fun, actually. I was expecting it to be a nightmare after everything people have posted, but maybe Dominating a Gatekeeper in like the first or second pod made it a bit easy on me. Seriously, those things are insanely strong. Plus, the Commander's Avatar's Dimensional Rift ability is crazy powerful. It's what I finished off the last Avatar with. Got through it only taking a tiny bit of damage, too. The Gatekeeper got hosed up a bit and the Commander's Avatar took a small hit, but regenerated it right away. But I was on Veteran and sort of knew what was coming, so that probably gave me a pretty big advantage. Time to start a new Commander campaign and see if I'm actually decent at this at all!

Yeah you just need to use your skills to make sure you just don't get hit. Going Mag over Pred is doing well for me in my Legendary Ironman, cause I'm at the point where Mutons and Advanced Troopers show up and with everyone upgraded I can nearly one shot them again. But you should definitely get Predator immediately after, cause it's pretty freaking great.

So I think the optimal order depends upon both your squad composition preferences as well as the pace that you can crank out research, but unless you have extenuating circumstances (maybe something granting significant boosts to armor research over weapons), weapons should happen before armor upgrades.

Oh cool, probably gonna lose another campaign on the second terror mission again. First pod has two stun lancers and a MEC, mec blows up cover with rockets, stun lancers get disoriented shots off the crit costing me a guy on turn 1. Then in the process of cleaning them up another guy gets knocked unconscious. So I'm down two soldiers with one pod cleared. There's no way to get an unconscious soldier up without revival protocol, right?

Generally, it doesn't matter if the major breakthrough pops and tops out the avatar chart as long as you have a release nearby which you can hit before the final timer runs out. Like, say, a facility. Granted, I've also had it so the breakthrough pops directly AFTER doing a facility, so it's not perfect. But it's better than dealing with lids every mission.

As far as I know, any Advent Breakthrough dark event pips will go to a facility rather than the big rear end tower in the ocean, which means you can just pop in, blow the place up, and they'll lose those two pips. Hidden Chrysalids on the other hand, gently caress that.

Phew, that was quite the mission. Had to face down 5 pods before I even got to the freaking door. On the near last turn an Advent Officer threw a Grenade at three guys he had no sight on and my Specialist caught on fire inbetween turns almost immediately and of course it did 3 damage, but thankfully not enough to kill her. I love Rangers.

Shadowstrike is actually pretty useful - usually, when you decide to break concealment on your Phantom ranger, it's because you need a Problem solved right that turn. The buff makes them really good at solving that one problem. I mean, yeah, it's pretty crap compared to just ignoring overwatches. But if you roll lightning reflexes, it's not that bad as a consolation prize.
