So I went Googling to see if there's any way to speed this game up, and found out that you can hit tab after you tell someone where to run, and it'll instantly skip you to the next person. That saves a lot of time; is there anything else I can do?

I'm not beyond hacking some ini files or something if it could speed more poo poo up like enemy movement.

Y is a shortcut for overwatch, R is a shortcut for reload, and shift allows you to switch to the previous person in the squad (goes backwards to tab's forwards). You can also use tab to select different enemies to shoot.

Don't press Y too fast, though, because it'll glitch and you'll have to swap around multiple characters to unglitch it. Fix your game, Jake.

Shred cannons seemed to fill the same niche as a rocket except cost elerium cores that could be better spent for acid/poison grenades and special ammo. Rockets just generally seemed the most versatile of the first generation heavy weapons.
Shred cannons are really good situationally, but you're right, the flamethrowers don't seem very useful.

I never really picked up on how terrible Bradford is at everything until XCOM 2, and then it all kind of clicked into place, flashback-style.

Finished the game last night. Some of you guys were talking earlier about how you stealthed the second to last mission? How'd that work? I assume you'd need armor with grappling hooks, but it still looked like the enemy alert tiles were too spread out to get past without activating them.

I only saw Berserkers twice before the final mission, but I also barely saw any Vipers. They were on a couple missions, but it seemed like they basically vanished a few missions after they appeared. Did I just have weird progression, or did anybody get their Vipers immediately replaced by Archons and Codices?

As for the ending teasing TFTD, I got the vibe that it's more likely that the expansion pack would be some variation on that. I don't know if they'd commit to doing an entire game based on TFTD.

I kind of hope there's a standalone campaign expansion here somewhere, if only because with all the extra classes and things it'll be hell to field everything with only six mans at a time and leveling everything up relatively evenly.

Skulljacking and random missions are my primary go-tos for intel, but that's not very reliable early on, unfortunately. Additionally, you can find alien data cache drops (perhaps they can be found in those mythical loot crates) and other items in pick-up for research, but I've found that I typically won't use them because I have so many things in my research pipeline at all times that I'll just never get around to it unless I'm so desperate for intel that it's worth the loss of time (I've gotten a whole like 50 Intel each time, so not worth the 5+ days of lost research time that could have gotten me closer to another weapon tier).

Relatedly, someone needs to mod in a +5 to hacking stat event that's noticeably easier than then +20 so you can pick between the relatively safe +5 or the much harder +20, kind of like how you can usually pick between small/large caches of alloys/intel/etc.

e: The only thing that increases hacking are the +20 events, the Gremlin Mk#, the Skullmining upgrade, being a specialist, and promotions. Succeeding at hacks does nothing.

I'm mostly alone in this, but I feel like it's not nearly as well-balanced as the first game (missions swing from too easy to too hard very often, especially in the early game).
From a few pages back, but I have to say that I agree with this. Although I don't really think it's mission difficulty that fluctuates most - retaliation missions on Legendary can be loving terrible, and any mission that wants you to first pick up a VIP and then get that VIP to an evac point can be equally bad (just without Bradford telling you about heavy civilian casualties). Avenger defense missions before you got a chance to upgrade your gear can also be interesting, I have found.
But the geoscape and everything that comes with it can really derail a campaign. My Legendary campaign is going better than the Commander campaign I started after winning the first, mainly due to a combination of a few factors I either had no control over or couldn't really foresee: the game decided I should not get a second scientist, and pretty much only get offered intel rewards for guerrilla ops missions that counter the least harmful dark event. And of course the first two facilities were built far away from my starting location. So I had to devote Tygan and his one assistant to cracking data pads while blowing resources on radio towers just because I couldn't afford spending more than 40 intel due to how much ground I had to cover, and since my research department was way understaffed I ended up getting Mag weapons very late and skipping Gauss weapons altogether. I got by mostly because the game threw over 20 Elerium Cores at me, as well as ammo and grenades as scanning rewards. All of my soldiers have at least either experimental ammo or grenades, while my Gunslinger and Jane Kelly have both.

Skulljacks and upgraded gremlins increases your hacking skill. Once in a while you can get +20 permanently from objective hacks in guerilla ops.
