I wish they'd tinker with the powerplay package system. [x] amount at 30 minutes is fine but the fact that it doesn't accumulate is really dumb. If you're not there every 30 minutes picking it up you'll only get that amount. So if you want to stay on top of things, you have to make that a full-time commitment. Considering the fact that undermining is far more easier and nets you like 10x the merits per hour, I don't think having package accumulate will make much of a difference.

Edit: I noticed I bought this up before. Well, it bears repeating!

I might as well ask this, though. Is it worth upgrading to a Python from an Asp? My Explorer is a really fine ship, so I'm just wondering what the advantages a Python has over it.

Python can carry ~200T of Cargo with a combat loadout, or 250+ without.

It also looks better, has bigger guns, etc...

You do lose jump range, though.

So I realised I hasn't stepped into a RES since I first got my clipper (just bombing runs and regular bounty hunting).

2 large burst lasers and 2 medium frag cannons (all gimballed) and you're a wonderful death machine with a 430 boost to catch juicy targets in a HazRES. Nothing was a problem, even anacondas with a light escort. Ran out of ammo eventually but all that did was slow down the kills.

I'm not even sure there is an upgrade path from this ship for me :v:

Finally got into this a few days ago after just not liking it the last few times I tried to. I managed to get into the top 40% for the Okinura CG, so now I have 6mil that I'm not sure what to do with. Running a tricked out eagle which is nice, though it is an EAGLE, so I'd like to upgrade. Should I go straight to the viper? I mostly tend to do combat missions and bounty hunting so I care less about cargo space and more about killdudes suitability.

With 6m you can get a D-spec Vulture, if you buy in LYR space you can get an A class power distributor on top of that.

If you want to shoot stuff in a RES, definitely go for Vulture, in LYR space for the nice discount.

Buy this starter Vulture, enjoy 1v1'ing anything in the game or stomping wings of baby ships. Drop the chaff when fighting turret-heavy things, like Anacondas. The first upgrade I'd make past this would probably be the power distributor so that you can fire the lasers basically indefinitely.

Okay, Ix looks like it has what I need. I've never gone more than 20 or so LY from my starting station.

Does this game have some enemy level gating where I will just get poo poo kicked by enemies because I haven't upgraded to a multi million dollar ship when I try to travel or am I okay to give it a go to travel the 212 LY to the Ix system? I'm in a Cobra III right now with most of the components maxed out except for my FSD which is C and shields which are D. I plan to swap out one of my 16 cargo units for a fuel scoop before I leave. My current jump range is 14 or so.

Sell your components until you can afford the best FSD you can carry and then the best fuel scoop you can afford. You get back 100% of module cost so when you get to destination you can sell those and refit. The cobra can outrun any ship that might interdict you so if you get pulled down, just boost away until you can leave.

It's also like that with North American players trying to play with North Americans. Basically, UDP peer to peer is stupid and this game is exactly as multiplayer as Dark Souls. Instancing failures affect everyone equally and FDev is trash at network programming. Not much anyone can do about it except them and they're too cheap to have dedicated servers. Yay indeed. I've basically given up on PvP at this point because trying to drop into a wing signal is a 50% chance at best that I'll even see my wingmates, much less the enemy. I don't even have bad internet nor am I in a remote location.

After making nearly a half million on trade and mission i decided to try my hand at combat. Armed with a brand new Cobra MKIII (i just love the engine sound on that bird) with mostly B and C class fitting i spotted a "low intensity" conflict zone and had the brillant idea of getting involved.

- Meh, that cant be that hard, it say "low intensity" right in the name but at least dock somewhere close before going in. A refuel and re-arm later i was ready to teach those bastard indenpentist some manners.

10 minutes after dropping "in the zone" i was back in the station with 15% hull, a busted canopy, 35 seconds o2 in life support and a soiled space suit.

I did make around 50K by team killing some Vipers but i learned to never stare at an angry Anaconda face. I think i will run a few more missions and maybe upgrade some critical fitting like the shield and power distributor to A class before trying that again.

Is there some way to increase canoppy resistance ?

Hull reinforcement modules increase the damage resistance of ship components in general, which I imagine applies to the canopy but I could be wrong.

Conflict zones can be very rough because anybody on the opposite side could aggro on you at any time. I'd avoid them until you are in at least a Vulture, or in a goon wing. You can ease into combat by going to Resource Extraction Sites (RES) and hunting pirates. RESes are easier because you can usually pick and choose your engagements. Pirates who scan you for cargo will ignore you if you carry none, so in most cases you are firing the first shot if you choose to fight. Plus, RESes (except for Hazardous ones) have space police that will attack any pirate that shoots you.

Go to a RES, target a ship (especially a combat-oriented ship), face them and check the targeting area on the lower-left corner of your screen. After a few seconds, it will pop up with either "Clean" or "Wanted." If it says Wanted, then you can legally shoot them and claim their bounty. You'll also see in that area if they are in a wing. Keep in mind that shooting one member of a wing will aggro the whole wing on you.

Note that even if you know someone is a pirate based on their behavior (ex. they scan you and say something threatening), you cannot legally shoot them until you target them, face them and see the Wanted designation. If you shoot them before that pops up, then you are breaking Space Law and the cops might get mad at you.

There are tons of goons in or near 63 G. Capricorni, so if you fly that way and hop into Discord or the PGS thread, then you should be able to get someone to wing up with you for team bounty hunting. It splits the bounties, but it'll give you some backup and will let you go after bigger fish, like Anacondas. Soloing an Anaconda is possible in a Cobra if you bring plenty of chaff and target their power plant (sub-system targeting is very handy against large ships), but it's slow and annoying and you're better off doing it with a Vulture, FAS or similar heavily armed combat ship.

Organic encounters work because the reason they're "organic" is that you've had to have successfully made a connection to even see them. Yes, random encounters with other players work fine, since you only see them if you can successfully connect to them, but winging with friends is not nearly as good.

Sweet, Vulture is what I'm aiming for at the mo so that's very helpful. If you have multiple chaff launchers does it dump 3 lots of chaff? Will I have to be manually turning them on and off to save wasting chaff?

You don't really need more than one chaff launcher unless you're planning on being out for multiple hours at a time. I tend to dock every hour or so to claim bounties and I have yet to completely run out of chaff in that time. Based on my experience, the Vulture is maneuverable enough and has solid enough shields that you'll very rarely spend time in an enemy's crosshairs, and when you do you rarely need to use chaff anyways.

I filled up my Vulture's utility slots with 1 chaff, 1 kill warrant scanner and a couple of shield boosters and have been perfectly happy.

No, it's smart. Press the chaff button and it dumps one. Bringing multiples means you can dump another right as one wears off and reloads, which again the game is smart enough to figure out.

Thank you for the information. I will try fitting some hull armoring modules and maybe upgrade the hull materials. The money i made in the conflict zone should pay for a bounty scanner so i can try ratting in a high RES this week end.

Should i go with four similar guns for ease of aiming or go half laser, half canons to take advantage of the bonus vs armor or shield ? I did go to "Mother Goat" and run a few mission for the Diamond Frogs (the faction, not the org) back when i was flying an Adder but i want to explore the game (and i just have the basid E:D, not horizon yet)a little more and maybe make a little credit reserve for the (higly probable) possibility of blowing up a few time in succession before asking to join.

I like 2 medium gimbaled multicannons for chewing through armor and 2 small gimbaled beams for bringing down shields. The cobra can run the beams for a long time.

Something like this. Start with D rank internals, upgrade distributor first, then plant and thrusters as you are able.
