How does that guy on C-span not go home and shoot himself in the face having to be the buffer for all these call-ins. I'd have to be perma-drunk to handle that, and even then I don't know.

Cruz... pandered the living poo poo out of the evangelical vote, which is big in South Carolina, played dirty with Photoshopped ads and robocalls. DEFEATED. Rubio... got the endorsements from the South Carolina establishment. DEFEATED. Bush... brought in his mother and brother, has the goddamn Bush name and huge Super-Pac funds. DEFEATED. Trump... fights the Pope, calls 9/11 a failure of the last Republican president, dukes it out with Fox News, wants to get rid of Mexicans and Muslims, which is perhaps 30% the entire world population. VICTORIOUS.

Joementum posted:Super Tuesday is going to be tough for him if winnowing happens tonight. You really think so? I don't think JEB! dropping out will push Rubio ahead of he and Cruz. Rubio really benefitted from the Haley-Scott-Gowdy Trio and focusing here. I don't see him doing as well in the other SEC states like Alabama. And Cruz obviously has no chance to catch Trump when Trump wins the anti-establishment vote in the exit polls so "bigly" that Cruz barely beats out the establishment choice among those voters. I don't think mere winnowing changes anything. I think the only winnowing that matters is when one of Rubio or Cruz drops out.

Nate Silver posted:To preview the debate you’ll be seeing among political analysts for the next several days: The reason that some people (us included) think second and third place finishes can be “good news” for Marco Rubio is because there’s lots of evidence from polls and other data that Rubio will gain support as other candidates drop out. It's not over yet.

I kind of wonder if both Bush and Kasich are just waiting to see if the other drops out before making their own decision, and it leads to a kind of standoff where neither wants to blink first, assuming they will benefit most from the other's supporters. That said I think Kasich is the more obvious one to drop, and if he does I really think Jeb will stick it out till super tuesday.
