Winner announcement usually happens during the second newscast after Splatfest, so we'll probably find out at 2am PST/4am CST.

Which is more useful with a tri-slosher, special charge up or main ink saver?

Oh.

Apparently the rumor going around is that some people were trying to sabotage splatfest. I'm fairly certain that's just people trying to tie a conspiracy theory to lovely teammates and bad connections, though. And I first heard about it through Tumblr so...

Even with a concerted effort its not really possible to sabotage a Splatfest team which is more popular. If you made a squidkid alt account of the less popular team to queue up for battles and then abandon them to leave that team in a 3 v 4 that would work. But the more popular team has lost in wins% in basically every single splatfest. Unless that is to say that the popular team is always being sabotaged by a diff/2 population from the "less popular" team implementing a strategy as such.

If that was in place though for Team Red they certainly did a good job hiding their sabotage. I never had a single team mate disconnect during a match. Sometimes i'd have disconnects from the lobby after getting awarded my points. I always spend these things leaving every lobby after 1 round, trying to join at the same time as my friends are. So I usually get a better look at the general team capabilities than smarter squidkids who find a winning team and stick out the 2 hours in one lobby.

But jfc the Red team was just plain godawful. They were certainly disconnecting their brains after hitting the 'Join Splatfest Battle' button. You really can't carry a team of 3 morons. I do remember one resounding success against a team of blues with a level 2, 5, 5, and something respectable. But that dear level 2 splatterscope despite my best effort had several confirmed kills on my team mates.

So I guess the 'sabotage' lesson to take from this is that children are just bad at the video game and you should always pick the opposite of the thing they like. Was glad to see players who weren't 9 monthers / level 35->50 for once.

Also Splatfest still isn't fun. The road to Champion (10/10, 25/25, 50/50) is relatively sane but I made the mistake of playing two 'evenings' of Splatfest and fighting my way through 99/99 Champion aka King for the first time in a while and those requirements are arduous and you really feel every minute tick by as you go from a 3 game winning streak with equal teams and telling your SO you'll be done in 21 minutes! To taking 60 minutes because you lose every single match to the end. Is a divide of 2 points to 5 points really necessary? But never speak ill of lord and savior Splatfest so i'll just cut it off here >8

And you're a whiny baby for complaining about me having opinions about a poorly designed game-mode in the game's dedicated thread? Use the ignore button on my profile? I'm not coming in here and posting a copy/paste rant every day or calling the developers retarded fags or something like some Early Access steam garbage. Every time this subject comes up in-game I have some new minutiae that bothers me about it. Or I subject myself to it and realize a new awful thing about it. The game is at its core fun, and I can suffer through Defender rank to get some of the reward out of it,

I put myself through Champion and actually felt the considerable skill bias on the two teams.

I feel like I'm missing some Splatoon-competent-players-secret poll every Splatfest now. All of these Splatfest topics seem like 50/50 arbitrary choice polls but consistently you have the significantly less popular team have a significant win-rate ratio. Is there some reasoning i'm missing here? I was playing last evening when the Splatfest started, and I would get a team of random competency squidkids from level 5 -> 50 and I wound up facing about 20 different teams of Pokemon Blue supports who were all level 50. The game would throw me up against better players than I, teams of mobile, tactical, clear S+ rank murderers, and my team mates would despite my best efforts to wipe the enemy team and paint them a foothold or maintain a chokepoint, just run straight into murder and fail to paint anything.

Holy poo poo if it's that easy to troll you then I think you should probably play something else.

I mean I agree about playing to King/Queen because I don't have time for that poo poo, but your constant complaints about teammates and "busted" matchmaking make you sound like you belong in the Dota thread. I was on Blue team this splatfest and I had a bunch of lovely games, and hell I made a whiny post too, but that's anecdotal as gently caress and I had no clue about the bigger picture. I didn't make up wild conspiracy theories about how Splatfest works, or why what is essentially a random poll with some minor rewards is in fact rigged.

You are taking this minor event in a kid-friendly shooter game way way too seriously.

Hey dipshit did you even read the post where I say "its not rigged. Its definitely not rigged. I feel like i'm missing something because the pattern is consistently low population = high winrate, high population = low winrate. but its definitely not rigged."

But no, please take my "Haha maybe these problems are exacerbated by the fact i'm apparently really bad at coin tosses. look at this salt.png" post as "its definately rigged"

And a terrible mode that forces you to play 2-5 hours in a 24hr period to get value out of.

My teams this time around were average. Had some shut-outs where we pushed them all the way back to spawn, but mostly pretty normal. 'Grats to Team Marie. GG Team Callie. :golfclap:

Now I am excited to play Pokemon Blue on the VC later this month.

EDIT: OH! I forgot. I squidbagged a dude for the first time yesterday! I was making an rear end of myself at the enemy spawn in Blackbelly. Went after this dude with a Tri-Slosher, popped a Kraken. A split second later, he popped his Bubbler and proceeded to swim around me, squidbagging. I fell back, waited a few seconds, and Splatted him with my normal one-two Slosher punch. Then I squidbagged him.

A few seconds later, he re-spawned, Splatted me, and squidbagged me. :D I wasn'te even mad, because it was funny.

That elephant ate my entire platoon.
I haven't done the math on this, so I could be way off, but is it possible that when there's such a discrepancy in popular vote that the more populous team gets an overwhelming concentration of unskilled players?

As in, can we explain the destruction without invoking some "all the good players vote for the less popular choice" conspiracy?

Let's assume that the Splatoon player base is split roughly 80% unskilled and 20% skilled, then the Splatfest vote goes 70% Red and 30% Not. Let's further assume the skill is evenly distributed. Can we then say that Red will always have a tougher go of it, due to Red vs Red battles and having a harder time getting a competent group of four together?

I'm worthless at stats so I honestly have no idea if this is possible. Intuitively it sounds workable but my stats intuition is usually wrong so .

Statistically, the less popular team will have an easier time keeping up a good win rate, which is why the less popular team wins every time after they altered the formula to affect how much the popular vote affects the score.

Now that splatfest is over I'm quickly reminded why I don't play as much anymore.

There's nothing more infuriating then getting a direct hit blaster on someone, hearing the noise; then having that someone turn into a kraken and fly into you, instantly killng you, or having someone do a really stupid predictable drop down ambush on you, only for him to reappear on the ledge he fell on, then fall on you again and kill you, over and over again.
