Tortuga posted:Most people's chances of owning a home are almost totally reliant on inheritance right now, the gap is already here and it's massive. I would imagine, if we left that house prices will go down due to the inevitable hit to the economy, the decreased demand for houses and hopefully us having to diversify our economy beyond hoarding plies of Victorian bricks. And yes the decreased demand for houses would come about due to EU nationals getting hosed over, which is my main misgiving. I can see where you're coming from but do many EU nationals even own their own homes? I have no facts or figures to back me up so I'm just guessing wildly here, but I'd be shocked if the vast majority weren't stuck in rented accommodation like everyone else seems to be. If anyone gained from that situation I think it would be landlords gobbling-up even more properties at reduced prices while everyone else was reeling and fretting over how they can afford to feed their families. I can't see the average person being in a position to put together a big enough deposit to buy anything if the economy takes a hit, we already have such a heavy reliance on food banks and exploitative employment practices that it's easy to imagine most people simply unable to save anything at all. forkboy84 posted:Scotland. The idea of "buying" house and paying for it until I'm 70 just doesn't appeal to me at all. I also wonder what it is in Scotland/Norn/Wales that makes them like the EU more. Maybe more likely to see the actual effects of membership than a Southerner in England? I wish these polls split it between north/south England too.

I have a question for you Brits: It seems that you have a problem with housing problem and not just in the center of big cities, where it is expected, but also in places where you have huge tracts of land that are unused. Why are you not building more houses? That seems like it would be an easy solution.

I'm sure that you can increase that number to 25% or even 30% and still have enough countryside left.
