A new group that's being cobbled together with fossil fuel backing hopes to spend about $10 million dollars per year to boost petroleum-based transportation fuels and attack government subsidies for electric vehicles, according to refining industry sources familiar with the plan. A Koch Industries board member and a veteran Washington energy lobbyist are working quietly to fund and launch the new advocacy outfit.

Longtime readers of these threads may remember :anarchists:RednBlackSalamander:anarchists: cartoons:

He had a number of classics:

But perhaps most memorable was his ten part series:

And, of course, the followup:

But did you know that he never actually stopped making cartoons?
It's true. For instance, you'll never believe what he thought of police killings:

Actually, you probably will believe it. But RednBlackSalamander has plenty to say about all the issues of the day:

Though he always comes back to the favorite topic of all anarchists: other anarchists.

So check out RednBlackSalamander. I think any cartoonist whose influences include "Tom Tomorrow, Ted Rall and Aaron McGruder" deserves this thread.

I don't see how he's influenced by Ted Rall because his people look like human beings. Actually, I like him. Like even to some extent the "modern anarchism" stuff, especially the one with the dude in his apartment starting the revolution by not voting. That's funny because it's a thing you see people argue about. It is good that an anarchist can poke fun at themselves.

Also, on top of the departments point mentioned above, this cartoon might specifically be about Darren Wilson's situation, where he became a millionaire from private donations after he killed Michael Brown, as racists came out of the woodwork to support his legal defense fund in far excess of what he needed.

The benefits cops receive in addition to the protection afforded by their union makes their dollar stretch so much further than others in the same tax bracket. It's the same for enlisted personnel in the military.

So they're not rich by any means but they're sure as hell buying more luxury goods and taking way more vacations than non-cops.

Civil Forfeiture. The cartoon isn't implying that this single policeman is actually a rich person. Although if you look at Oakland...

What's your definition of lower middle class income though? Police Officers in Oakland CA make about 90 - 100k before overtime and benefits. Overtime is a big thing too. In 2012, 179 Oakland police made over $200,000 - http://www.eastbayexpress.com/oakland/throwing-more-money-at-police/Content?oid=3560590&storyPage=1

When I was working for the state university, I paid into the public employee retirement system instead of SS, which means that most of a decade of labor earned me poo poo-all for retirement. So yes I'd imagine that most state and probably municipal police pay into their state PERS rather than SS.

Nobody ever says just "middle class" and it drives me nuts. Anyone who has an even slightly lower standard of living than the speaker had growing up is "lower middle class", anyone slightly higher is "upper middle class". And I'm talking like 5k a year differences.

The middle class is so god drat small these days, and so dwarfed in power and wealth by the rich, that it's barely worth splitting into upper/lower anymore. And yet people do, maybe more than ever.

If there is any profession that is just plain "middle class" it's police and classifying them as "lower middle class" is probably just subconsciously docking them for their relatively low levels of education compared to their economic peers.

There is a lot of difference in standard of living and financial security between a "middle class" family of 4 making $45k and a "middle class" family of 4 making $100k.
