Guys I'm pretty sure The Saurus is actually a legit fascist here, I've kind of gotten a feel for these things It's pretty ironic to see posts by someone with nazi politics get ignored in this thread while stalinists and anarchists are accusing each other of social fascism, it's like this thread is the ultimate metaphor for the left

There is no immutable law that is going to drive us to revolution. You have to bring ideas into the mainstream until they replace "common sense". A revolutionary situation cannot be at hand if there is not a majority of workers who are conscious of themselves as a class and their relationship to the means of production. If they do not seize the means of production consciously it is not a revolution. The occupy movement, as spastic as it was, still brought a slither of class consciousness into the US discussion and Bernie has for the last 9 months brought a discussion about socialism to the US mainstream. That means there is a generation who wants an alternative and now see that alternative identified with socialism. That's a good thing. The Narodnik Russian revolutionaries learned this as they were being crushed that you can't drop revolutionary pamphlets on illiterate peasants and you can't assassinate the Tsar if the peasants still believed in him as a moral authority. You still haven't. Capitalism still has a moral hold onto the population. Property is still considered sacrosanct. The first aspect of revolutionary socialism that we can introduce into a society is the so called "Ricardian" socialism of Thomas Hodgskin. Hodgskin is a wonderful "native" primer to socialism because his arguments are rooted in Enlightenment thinking of "natural rights" just like the the U.S. Constitution. Concepts like property, ownership and labor take on a different meaning when they are able to identify the root of capital exploitation of labor. His solution: worker owned and managed cooperatives within a market. That's already difficult to do. Its not perfect but as opposed to futile immediate calls from old line alien Leninist parties, it is a tangible goal that provides a real alternative to capitalist ownership. The conscious seizing of production for workers by declaring independence from bosses is a revolutionary act even if it is done without violence. It also creates a framework for turning alien concepts into daily life that can be understood. Its a way to turn socialist concepts into "common sense." Who talks about establishing a national system to support cooperative worker owned enterprises on the national stage? Bernie Sanders The third possible benefit from his candidacy is to show the limits of electoral politics and to reinforce just how strongly capital is stacked against workers and spur grassroots organization. It's not all or nothing.
