On my last game I was eventually staring at 2000+ supplies in the bank with literally nothing left to build but scrapping for every bit of intel I could get, so I say build 'em every other territory. Never pay more than 60 intel for a contact, intel is simply much more valuable than supplies.

xcom EU didn't have problems because they stuck to stock unreal engine graphics and aimed down for consoles. xcom 2 looks much nicer, I especially like the PBR surfaces which are key for making all the shiny & glossy armor stuff look real this time instead of looking like plastic action figures like in EU. but it was made by firaxis, they're not out there looking for john carmack level engine guys.

How exactly does Ironman work? EU/EW Ironman saved automatically after the start of each player turn. I heard this game saves the moment you input any action on a soldier. The difference being that in cases of buggy bullshit (and, I assure you, only in cases of buggy bullshit) I could force close the game in EW and start my player turn fresh. But if this game saves after every little thing I'd have to live with whatever teleporting-pod cover-not-in-the-AoE-still-exploding etc. bullshit the game might spit out. And I do not want that, sir, I do not.

It saves at the start of your turn, if you alt-f4 anytime before the Aliens Turn completes you will load at that earlier point. Exiting out normally has the save at the exact point you hit Exit. Basically the Auto save for Ironman works the same as for non Ironman but instead of using a 3 turn rolling save with a Strategy Layer save it just keeps one save overwriting whenever the save would normally trigger.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes, look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
That's actually not how it works. It saves at the beginning of every player turn, and if you quit through the menu or load a game it saves before doing so. But if you Alt-F4 it skips that and you can roll back to the beginning of your turn, even if you misclick or whatever.

edit: beaten, yeah it works like Madhat and pakled say, not like CapnAndy says.

The thing is 2 sprints away, andromedon hits it every turn kills it in about 4 turns, 2 pods in between me and the objective. I think this mission is actually impossible. I even made it up to the andromedon pod and threw a mimic. The andromedon charged the transmitter killing it. That's not challenging that's cheap.

Hang on, that works if you slash from around a blind corner?

In general, I'm a big fan of shadowstrike for phantom conceal Rangers. Overwatch is easy to counter this game if you fling HE everywhere. shadowstrike is a way for me to go up and delete any mob I want, easy to get 100% hit and crit chance if a mob flanks itself. Funnily enough, I haven't really used run and gun even when it's a great ability, I value the scouting and flexibility of a phantom conceal Ranger. My loadout this run has been 1 of each basic class, 3 grenadiers, of which one gets replaced by a psi ops once they have stasis and domination. Don't need a run and gunner to flank and shotgun crit if they end up flanked by plasma grenades.

poo poo. Well, is it a mission where you can harvest the bodies at least? Then you get something for your trouble.

I notice on some missions if I take too long securing the objective reinforcements get called in. Seems to depend on the mission type. Other times, reinforcements get called in because I secured the mission objective (rescuing a VIP) and now need to get the hell out of there.

On blacksites and alien facility missons, reinforcements seem to always pour in whenever I kill all the targets in the base, but also whenever I plant the X4.

I was able to evac off the roof of a facility and leave the newly-dropped reinforcements for the explosion. The cutscene made me happy, but I really wanted to see bodies go flying. :(

Just finished my first full campaign on Veteran, zero losses, only 3 missed flawless missions in total, and I think 2 of those were the final missions because I only remember loving up one along the way.

The final mission was basically carried by my Ranger who rapid fire double crit not one but 2 Avatars. Rapid fire has to be up there with the best abilities in the game, because it just does an absolute gently caress-ton of single target damage whenever and where ever you need it.

Is there much reason to change from that? If you are save scumming at all then a medic is completely unnecessary. The last mission was the only one that I took any damage on, but even then I was able to work around most of it to the point I didn't lose anyone (although it was close). I ran my entire veteran run with the same squad: 2 grenadiers (both explosives focused), 2 Rangers (one of each full tree to test things out), 1 combat specialist, and one full sniper sharpshooter. I got some sweet AWC rolls along the way so that Sniper had Serial as did the Bladestorm ranger.

I was pretty late on getting my Psi Ops, only having 1 for the final missions. Looking back getting 2 early is probably a game changer, since a good pair of dominates will break a lot of missions wide open.

Honestly I think a medic would be FAR more useful if the healing done by him negated the injury time applied at the end of the mission. Right now a medic seems useless since he won't stop the game from loving you over with healing time regardless of what he does. Better off just slotting another full offensive dude in there and killing things faster.

I'm of the other opinion. I feel not having a medic is bad enough that you always want one. I've tried hackers and their best ability is Combat Protocol. I just like that security blanket. I guess Scanning Protocol has some utility on retaliation missions, but 4 heals, revive, and the ability to save a bleeding out soldier without losing 2, (one carrying them to evac) is amazing. Also Revival Protocol deals with unconscious or other control poo poo. And its not like a medic misses out on the overwatch goodies. Basically I feel medic is not as guaranteed to be useful, but when you don't have a medic and you need it, you will feel its loss much more than not having a combat hacker.

Revive Protocol is just stupidly important in this game, also being able to stabilize from a distance. I had a character get knocked unconscious at the beginning of a mission today, didn't have anyone who could revive so welp I guess I'm a soldier down! Combat Specialists just can't compete with that in my eyes.

I put AP on my Shredder Gunner for whenever I see a single target with huge HP+Armor. Open with that and your shots bypass all that armor, PLUS they get shredded so the rest of your squad can gently caress them up.

Edit:
I go Hybrid Medic... skip Revival for Haywire, then take the Overwatch stuff. With Aim PCSes, they can be beastly.

My main beef with injuries is that armor doesn't compute separately like in the first game, so even if you only took a few grazes to drop you less than what armor gives, you still end up in the sickbay. There's a mod that tries to fix this but the side that made it changed other poo poo too. loving feature creep. :argh:
