I so wish i could like this game, but the difficulty to tell on what z-layer you're on makes this just a chore to play, since you have to verify you're standing right before every attack.

Hrm. From everything they've released so far (i.e. zero gameplay) it looks like it'll be another VN-heavy RPG (and FuRyu doesn't have a great track record for gameplay, right?), just with an edgy storyline. The crafting system has two issues:

Every weapon is "created" with a specific level:damage curve. If you care about having the best of all, read up guides on how to do the math to determine whether the weapon you got is on that curve or not. My recommendation: entirely ignore this feature.

The materials to upgrade weapons to the higher half of the levels are incredibly rare and time-consuming to farm for, in the vein of "kill [this type of low level boss], by shooting it in [this place on its body], and have a 20% chance of dropping the right item, also you need 5 of this item". This translates into you having to farm tier 3 missions for a few hours (with 2 minutes per run) just to get past a certain level point in upgrading a weapon, which means you're best served by using the level 1-3 upgrades to figure out what kind of weapon type you like, and then focusing on upgrading only that. Don't play weapon pokemon in Freedom Wars.

Also, less of an issue, but: Don't mix element points on weapons, since every weapon can only have a total of 100 "natural" element points. Honestly, i'm not even sure i've ever seen element points do anything.

The shotgun is very overpowered, but also a little boring to play, in my opinion.

Thank for your post. The only thing is that what I currently know about the Freedom Wars endgame makes it sound more effort than what I would like to undergo. Anyway, I'm code 6 now. Can I skip crafting and upgrading stuff just to finish the storyline?

Currently I'm keeping a EZ-Katze and an EZ-Kralle on my character, and gave a rocket launcher to my accessory. Good weapon, even if ineffective against sinners and shielded abductors. All the weapons are currently Level 5, so does many of the NPCs I get with me on missions. I think I won't upgrade the Katze Kralle after all, since that is the weapon requiring the T-Type talons.

The EZ Wolf minigun is a really good general-purpose accessory weapon.

Level 5 weapons should be plenty for clearing the storyline, although the last boss might be a little rough.

3D-wise I only have DW8. I might snag Samurai Warriors 4-II at some point, but not at full price when I'm not remotely done with DW8 (since Musou games tend to be somewhat similar anyway). I also have Gundam Breaker 2 and Soul Sacrifice Delta, if you want to lump either in the same genre. Otherwise, I have Muramasa and Dragon's Crown, but those are 2D.

The endgame itself isn't bad, the issue is more that the crafting system is built to create some amount of forced variety, by making it very very time-intensive to sperg out and try and get the absolute best of absolutely everything. (Of course a whole bunch of min-max spergs went and did exactly that anyhow.) Also, where the storyline ends is a bit unclear. Don't skip crafting/upgrading. Just get comfortable with the idea that you won't have the best of all, and decide on one weapon type you want to max, maybe with 1 additional as second class. Also keep in mind that these games are built to be played online. Any kind of random pickup-group will be lightyears beyond your AI chumps.

For what it's worth: For those you need to *break* (not sever) the parts off of the front paws. This means instead of attaching and sawing the arm off, you need to manually aim at that part and inflict enough damage. I don't remember what works well for that though, maybe try with the shotgun.

You'd be better off with Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3, since it's a full game rather than a glorified extension pack, unless having historical battles is very important to you.

If i remember correctly, the Dynasty Warriors games are always a little crap.

Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 and Orochi Warriors 3 are much better than DW8, and if you're not violently opposed i'd recommend getting either of those, with the main difference being: Orochi has you run around with a squad of 3 tag team warriors who you can either switch with or have accompany you as AI and in both cases combo attacks with a lot. Samurai Warriors has you run around with 3+ people spread across the battle field and you can give them commands and jump between their bodies as well (and you can make a custom warrior).

To sort of add to this, here are the augmentations I settled on as most generally useful once I'd gotten close to the 0-year mark.

Attack+: I used to sperg out trying to take the absolute optimal attack augmentations for every single fight, switching back and forth between Attack, Attack Abductors, Attack Ramosa, ad nauseam; it was not worth the trouble. Just take one that lets you kill all the things more better, no B.S.
Last Legs: You are super frail in Freedom Wars and you will get knocked out a lot. Most defensive augments won't make a difference, but this one makes it twice as easy to bounce back without penalty.
Thorn Length+: The Thorn is useful for attacks, mobility, reviving at a distance, all kinds of stuff. Longer Thorns are even more useful.
Anti-Howl: When most Abductors power up, they give out a howl that stuns anyone nearby. Anti-Howl turns it from a constant annoyance and threat, into an opening for some heavy attacks.
Thorn Length: To be honest I have no idea if this even works with Length+, but it was the only aug I could fit in the last slot with no points left.

Gematsu translated a bit of Takaki's message about Uppers

Gematsu posted:

“One reasons it that the number of pre-orders haven’t reached the amount we thought they would,” Takaki said. He added, “If we consider today’s market, they’re not numbers that we can realistically swallow.”

He continued: “I want to believe in the power and potential of this game even more.”

Takaki said that he wants more time to further promote the game.

As for the game itself, Takaki notes that the development staff is putting all of its power into finishing the game in its best condition.

http://gematsu.com/2016/02/uppers-delayed-unannounced-date-japan#UJEo8VrXrmOO4AI5.99

I can't wrap my mind on the whole situation. Those preorder should've been absolutely abyssmal for Marvelous to take this decision, I mean, the game is nearly done and I'd think getting some money back would be preferable to no receive money at all.

I'm honestly surprised, I'd thought the concept would be more appealing to the japanese.
