The thing about religious nutters is that lots of religious kids eventually think "Bullshit" and stop being religious. The only people who become religious are people who've had a mental breakdown or are otherwise vulnerable due to their circumstances - overcoming addiction, etc. This probably leads to a net loss of religious people over time, despite the way that they seem to breed like loving rabbits.

I posit that the outcomes of this are 1) the proportion of the population who are religious nutters will steadily decrease over time, but 2) the religious nutters will become a stronger and more potent form of religious nutter over time. Concentrating the insanity, as it were.

However, it would seem reasonable to predict that politicians will eventually have to stop pandering to them as the religious nutter demographic grows slimmer and slimmer, unless the loving Muzzos take over and implement that Shareear thing.

There are plenty of quietly religious people out there who do the Picard face-palm every time the ACL or the LNP open their mouths on religious issues. It's the noisy nutters who need to go away. Just like ISIS are a vanishingly small percentage of Muslims world-wide, groups like ACL tend to represent a minority of Christians. Unfortunately they tend to be both loud and well-funded.

It would be good to see a concerted effort from moderate Christians to clearly disassociate themselves from nutters like the ACL. It wouldn't need to be much, just a petition or something stating that the ACL doesn't represent them or speak on their behalf. It'd have to start from the top though and I reckon the major denominations are to scared of losing conservative members from their already dwindling ranks.

Judge rules 'N-word' not offensive
AUGUST 10, 2010 4:24PM

A QUEENSLAND judge has found the terms "friend of the family" and "sandnigger" are not offensive to a reasonable person.
Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll made the ruling yesterday when he dismissed a case against a Gold Coast retiree charged with sending an offensive facsimile to a local politician, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported .

Denis Mulheron, 62, sent the fax to the office of Queensland lawmaker Peta-Kaye Croft on June 30 last year.

It called on the Labor Party to tighten immigration laws against "niggers" and "sandnigger terrorists", and Muslim women with circumcised genitals.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.

Staff member Christie Turner, 28, told Southport Magistrates Court she was deeply offended when she read the one-page document, which also made reference to indigenous Australians as "Abos".

Mr Mulheron, from the Gold Coast suburb of Labrador, told the court he had grown up with the slang terms for Arabs and black Africans and did not believe they were offensive.

"I'm not a member of the cafe, chardonnay and socialist set ... to me that is everyday language," he said.

He argued in court they were no different to calling a New Zealander a "Kiwi" or an American a "Yank".

Mr O'Driscoll ruled that Mr Mulheron's words were not enough to invoke criminal sanctions.

"The words used were crude, unattractive and direct but were not offensive to a reasonable person," he said.

But he made it clear the court in no way condoned Mr Mulheron's comments.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the use of the term "friend of the family" is highly offensive and has no place in modern Australia.

The case comes after a judge in the Queensland city of Townsville ruled last Thursday that it was acceptable for people to tell police officers to "f*** off".

Townsville judge Peter Smid threw out a case against Bardon Kaitira, 28, who swore at a female officer outside a nightclub on December 20 last year in the early hours of the morning.

Judge Smid said: "The defendant spoke normally, he had his hands in his pockets and walked away. It's not the most polite way of speaking but those who walk the beat would be quiet immune to the words."

I think that was on a website linked for further reading. Body disphoria is real though, and if they're talking about it with teenagers that's good. No idea about the four year olds but isn't this a school-age program?

Tucking and binding is normal and only weird for people like Cory Bernardi, who is in fact himself weird for being so shocked at learning something new about human beings that everyone knows about already.

According to the new matilda article posted further up the page, they apparently link to a website as part of recommended reading or something and elsewhere on the website is an article about breast binding and how to do it safely instead of, like, crushing your ribs or something

That's just the Uniting Church. It would be good if the Anglicans and Catholics could do something similar and ideally join in condemning the ACL. I think if they really wanted to distance themselves they should be issuing press releases and getting in the media's face about it, but like I said above, all of those denominations have some quite conservative members who would support what the ACL is saying and the churches would be too afraid to lose them to Hillsong or whatever to make too much noise about it.

The main issue with the review of the tax payer funded safe schools australia coalition is litigation.
The program encouraging kids with gender dysphoria to consider sex change operations as a "life style" choice could open state and federal governments to massive litigation in the future.
Do tax payers want to be forking out millions of dollars in the future when these young kids change their mind about undergoing irreversible sex altering operations.
People who undergo surgical sex change operations are at a high risk category to commit suicide as they don't belong with men or women.
It seems very logical and sensible why the federal government would not want to endorse and fund this dangerous ideology.

Hmmm, I wonder if a lot of the suicide issues will go away when we stop treating people as if they're freaks to be looked down upon? Could there possibly be a causal relationship between the two. Cunneen watch:

Arsetralian :- http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/cunneen-did-not-contact-sons-girlfriend-right-after-bingle/news-story/

quote:

The Victorian Chief Crown Prosecutor is understood to have concluded Margaret Cunneen SC had no contact with her son’s girlfriend in the immediate aftermath of the car accident at the centre of the corruption investigation of the NSW prosecutor.

The advice from Gavin Silbert QC is believed to not only clear Ms Cunneen of any criminal offence from the 2014 accident involving Sophia Tilley, it is also understood to contain a description of the tone of the Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor’s conversations on a tow-truck driver’s phone, alluding to the casual nature of the phone-call and her puff and bluster. One of the two telephone intercepts that ICAC Commissioner Megan Latham SC released to a NSW parliamentary committee this month was recorded at least a day after Ms Tilley’s accident in Ms Cunneen’s car. Ms Cunneen sent her son Stephen Wyllie and Ms Tilley a text message after they had left the scene of the accident. In one text, Ms Cunneen said she was praying to St Anthony that Ms Tilley had not been drinking, The Australian has been told. The revelations build pressure on the committee to issue a summons for Mr Silbert’s advice and for Ms Latham to explain why she did not release it at the same time as the telephone intercepts.

Mr Silbert’s advice is understood to be tightly held with only three copies: one held by NSW Solicitor-General Michael Sexton SC, one with Mr Silbert and one with the Independent Commission Against Corruption. It is believed that the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions was not provided with a copy. It is believed that Mr Silbert’s advice, commissioned by Mr Sexton after ICAC referred the matter to the DPP, would dispel the doubt that has arisen about Ms Cunneen after the release of the phone taps. It is understood to reach a firm conclusion on ICAC’s evidence and is definitive in its finding that there is no evidence Ms Cunneen communicated or sent any text messages to Ms Tilley prior to her going into the ambulance. In one of the intercepts, leaked to the media after being handed to the committee, Ms Cunneen was heard saying she advised Ms Tilley to start having chest pains after the accident to delay a blood test because she was on her P plates and had consumed alcohol. Mr Silbert’s advice is likely to detail how paramedics arrived at the scene before police and immediately treated Ms Tilley. Her car had been crushed and rolled on its side after a delivery van drove into her.

As Ms Tilley was already in an ambulance when police arrived, it was determined she would undergo a blood-test at the hospital, where she recorded a blood-alcohol level of zero. This is in accordance with legislation and formal procedure whereby NSW police conduct breath tests immediately unless a victim is already in an ambulance. Police breathalysed five other people at the scene. Ms Latham provided the committee responsible for overseeing ICAC with Ms Cunneen’s telephone intercepts and text messages. But Ms Latham did not give the committee Mr Silbert’s advice that absolved Ms Cunneen of any criminal offence. In another move, the NSW government has boosted the power of ICAC’s oversight body by giving ICAC Inspector David Levine QC an assistant inspector, former NSW District Court judge John Nicholson SC. Mr Levine will be called to give evidence to the parliamentary committee on March 14 and Ms Latham on March 18. Ms Latham could be asked if a counsel assisting the investigation into Ms Cunneen was rung by then attorney-general Brad Hazzard. The opposition peppered Mr Hazzard with questions asking if he had rung the counsel assisting to say: “Do you know what you are doing?” Mr Hazzard denied he would have used such words.
So if I am reading this tortured piece of analysis correctly then Cunneen only bragged to a tow truck driver about perverting the course of justice rather than actually perverting the course of justice. OK. I guess. Still some miles left in this journey through stupidity :munch:

Not sure that entirely pulls her buns out of the fire either but it certainly leads to some further doubt about the specifics. Is a senior prosecutor giving advice to, in general, pervert the course of justice better or worse than specifically giving such an instruction? :suspense:

There's a lot of work done on voting motivation in the US, and in general people turn up to general elections based more on whether they fear the other guy rather than getting out for their guy(Obama being a very notable exception). If that holds Trump loses against a vanilla candidate like Clinton. If Sanders manages to somehow beat the DNC and get the nomination then who the gently caress knows.
