It's worth easily 2-8 times their asking price in parts, too. Looks like a great candidate for a February/March cross country drive... roofs are for pussies right?

Cross-posting from the terrible car poo poo thread: http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/5461910472.html Highlights: 1998 Corvette front suspension, 1995 Corvette rear suspension. Custom grille and dash with classic gauges, PT Cruiser taillights, one piece front windshield. Tilt steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, power seats and windows. Custom paint, tan leather interior. LS1 engine with 4L60e 4 speed [auto] transmission. It's always a loving LS engine and an auto transmission and seats out of a loving 2005 Explorer or whatever with these old guys and their $70,000 custom cars. And loving PT CRUISER TAILLIGHTS CHRIST.

Other than the fact I would never be able to afford it what's wrong with the Front subframe, rear subframe, and drivetrain chosen? Don't those all work very well?

Other than the obvious Corvette rims, the bra on the front, and that whatever in the hell doodle on the underside of the hood is, I think it works well. I'm not even opposed to the PT tail lights, because they work on something that is intentionally trying to date itself, I aint even mad..

The guy puts a ton of money into a 20 year old car, then wants to sell it almost immediately and make his money back. I don't get people. That's way too much for that car, I don't care if Jon Voight himself drove it.

Those things were incredibly hot back in the 80s, I've got a book in FWD racing and they completely dominated in stuff like ice racing. Although the guy talking about them describes having to take the whole car apart and loctite every bolt back in place so ymmv 30 years later. If I found a running example for $650 I'd be very tempted to pull the trigger.

Despite just buying a small truck I keep looking for one of these stupid little VW trucks. If this wasn't 400 miles away I'd be going to look at it this weekend. Anyone in the area want to help me make a poor decision? http://northmiss.craigslist.org/cto/5436951553.html quote:1981 Volkswagen rabbit pickup very rare an worth a lot more than what I'm selling it for it is all original very very clean everything works the paint is very clean no dents no rust has a 1.6 liter diesel in it with a 10 gallon fuel tank an it get 58 .6 miles to the gallon an it's a 4 speed you want find another one like it or as clean call or text

If you were any closer I'd be down. I love those stupid little trucks (and honestly, most other abandoned trucks/trucklets like the elco, ranchero, LUV, rampage, brat, etc) even though they are gutless.

My dad worked for a VW dealer for a while and had one of those. He said the gas version was a great little truck that handled and drove like a rabbit but the diesel was and slow to the point of being dangerous in the highway. Always wanted one but every time I see one for sale it's a diesel. Probably not a hard swap though.

They are pretty awful if used as a truck tho. Better than a car, but come on. I saw one with a sport bike in the back, couldn't have been more than 500lbs total. Rear suspension was bottomed out. You can do better with your average Camry

I've had two of them, both with the slow as gently caress 1.5 NA diesel. I want another badly despite the Ford Courier I just picked up being far more capable and useful as a truck. I do have a 1.9 TDI engine ready to go into the next one I buy. I'm also tempted to look into a RWD conversion since I have a M42 and drive line as well

That sounds like something that can be fixed with airbags or stiffer springs. Also it'd need a Tuareg V10 diesel or pisshat W8 AWD swap, honestly.

Both those engines would double the weight of the thing but would be amazing. I keep seeing them posted in the NEAI region, might have to do another trip up there to drive a slow rear end truck back. Or toss it in Adiabatics garage and do a AI engine swap some weekend.

Seems a lot expensive. I picked mine up with 4WD for $800 bucks and I've been driving/loving the hell out of it. Here is the reddest flag I've seen recently. When you start listing how much gas is in the tank of your car as a selling point you are truly at the end of your rope.
