I have some bad news for Millennials here, and the people who hate them with such diligence. Current generation of young Canadians wealthiest ever: federal study quote:"The current generation of young Canadians is, on average, wealthier than previous generations of young Canadians," says the confidential report, though with some cautionary notes. If you're nearly 30, broke and living with your parents you're an even bigger gently caress up than we thought. Sorry. Don't worry too much though, I'm sure the actual report itself is full of massaged figures like averaging the super wealthy trust fund babies out with the legions of destitute and completely fails to take any other factors other than exact dollar amounts into account.

Canada is a whole country who has the population of a US state and is run by a male fashion model. Also almost all the figures of net worth have to do with stocks these Canadians own, which are all US based. Jobs figure very little into the net worth looking at the math.

Uh, he actually taught kindergarten for a year or some poo poo and wrote a stupid book no one read. He basically got into office by name recognition and because his opponents were loving idiots; our political leaders are even sadder than America's. But apparently we're rich, so who cares. I can't wait until this place hits rock bottom and the next generation inherits a wasteland covered in tar and dust while we enjoyed beautiful national parks like Banff.

That's extreme but not impossible. Someone I know bought a house 15 years ago for under 100K, got lucky to be in the center of a boom and now it's worth 1.3 million.

Housing prices are expensive, though I'm wondering how many people are genuinely trying to get a loan or make offers on houses. If a couple has a stable job, they can always save up for a down payment eventually. With the housing market rents are going to be high as well so it's not like renting indefinitely is going to have a long term benefit. If they have an emergency then they have that nest egg saved up. Their most vulnerable time will be the first two years of owning a home when they are the most cash strapped. My sister in law did this at 19 during the last housing bubble. Her and her fiance saved up money, bought a house on a short sale and rented out all the rooms while continuing to live with their parents. They got married, moved into one of the rooms and got financially stable enough to not need roommates. They sold that house and are currently living in their third house. She's the same age as me and to her credit accomplished this not by dumb luck but rather by being disciplined enough to save up as much money as possible. I think people see housing costs and get discouraged; I know it's what held me back. If you convince yourself you're never gonna afford a house you'll create a self fulfilling prophecy. It kind of happened to us; between our jobs my wife and I could save easily so we weren't as disciplined as we could have been. We probably could've afforded a house a few years ago if we saved more aggressively.
