Canada has similar laws; basically if it's a dewat firearm it's in the prohibited category, airsoft got a pass with a bunch of restrictions, paintball is generally tolerated and air guns have speed & energy restrictions that pretty much renders them useless for hunting. If you commit a crime with any of the above, you're charged with full firearm sentencing multipliers and you will be in trouble just for showing up in public with any of them without a valid reason.

Though you can also own things like anti-tank guns loaded with HE with no restriction (explosive ammo is legal as long as it's above 15mm in caliber), and you can get around magazine restrictions by buying a semi-auto version of a period machine gun like an MG 42 and feeding it with a belt. You can also buy 10-round pistol magazines and load them into rifles that take the same mags, even though rifles are supposed to have a 5-round capacity limit. Or buy magazines for .50 Beowulf AR-15s and load them with an illegal amount of 5.56mm. So you can own a semi-auto rifle with a 100 round capacity as long as it's belt-fed, or you can own a 20mm anti-tank rifle with explosive ammo, but goddammit you better not have a 15-round magazine in your Beretta!

To be fair, you're a lot more likely to do a crime with the Beretta than either of the other options.

I watched one of my grandmothers die in a retirement home while I was 5-15 years old, visiting every year to see her loosing more and more of herself. It was horrible. The irony occurs when your uncles get old and get the same treatment because they never thought their kids any different. The reporter reading off that list of her descendants felt weird, so I looked it up. Ends up she's outlived only one of her three children, but holy poo poo her granddaughter is 67 and her husband passed away before I was even born (1971). It's probably time for Flossie to fill that coffee mug full of whisky and drift off on a slab of ice.

When it comes to actually using guns for crime though fake guns are usually just as effective as real guns, as the majority of the time they're being used in a threatening/coercive manner for rape/robbery/whatever. I understand in America (or some states at least) if you hold up a store with a fake gun it can or will be legally treated as a real weapon and you'll be poo poo on by the justice system. TBF, American cops are very familiar with seeing guns in real life and they often mistake other objects ( cell phones, penises, canes, etc.) for guns. And then of course, there's confusing their guns and tasers.

Paintball guns and air rifles are Category A firearms (the same as .22 rimfire non-automatic rifles and double-barrel shotguns) and require a "genuine reason" to be provided to petition for ownership. Yeah, it's not worth banging on about because barely anyone in Australia gives a poo poo about gun laws as we don't have a gun culture.

There's a video of someone passing out about three times on a ride like that. I can't even imagine how scary it would be to wake up after passing out and, in that first second of consciousness, when you still have no idea where you are or how you got there, to discover OH GOD you're a million miles in the air and falling to earth! Funny, though.
