So that's Manitoba, Ontario and I believe I read that Saskatchewan were also pushing for it.

Perhaps we will achieve our glorious socialist revolution of ensuring that basic needs are met and that people like Rime won't hang themselves because they can't find a job fast enough.

Oh there actually is something.

As a result, this year, the government will continue to engage with delivery partners, clients and sector advocates to chart the path to comprehensive reform that effectively reduces poverty, supports people in their efforts to participate in the economy, and provides human services in a way that makes sense to the people who need them. This process will look across government and at the broader income security landscape to ensure that various existing and future programs work together to help Ontarians. The government will also engage with First Nation, Inuit and Metis communities to ensure that the path forward recognizes unique challenges on- and off-reserve and helps all Ontarians live a better life.

One area of research that will inform the path to comprehensive reform will be the evaluation of a Basic Income pilot. The pilot project will test a growing view at home and abroad that a basic income could build on the success of minimum wage policies and increases in child benefits by providing more consistent and predictable support in the context of today’s dynamic labour market. The pilot would also test whether a basic income would provide a more efficient way of delivering income support, strengthen the attachment to the labour force, and achieve savings in other areas, such as health care and housing supports. The government will work with communities, researchers and other stakeholders in 2016 to determine how best to design and implement a Basic Income pilot.

*3 years later*

The test project has indicated that there would in fact be a net benefit to going to the grocery store to buy eggs.

Unfortunately seeing as this is an election year we will not be able to proceed with the project at this time.

Should we be reelected, we will prioritize going to the store.

And honestly get professional help. Therapists aren't there to "fix" you or your problems, but to readjust your mindset and give you tools and techniques to deal with the difficulties you are experiencing without wanting to top yourself.. As someone who was in your shoes at 25, your mindset is affecting your immediate reality far more than you are probably even aware of. Once you get on the other side of it, you'll be able to see how true that is.

I hope the kind of hopelessness I'm seeing in this thread can turn around. Ultimately a more positive outlook doesn't really hurt anyone, and will really only serve you. And, moreover, I think the kind of hopeless mindset posters have here is exactly the kind that congeals into general misanthropy that predatory politicians and corporate interests just love in their plebian class in order to exploit them. Basically, the kind of poo poo that we're seeing people like Trump capitalize on now, by blaming any convenient bogeyman for working class problems (while deflecting blame from themselves.)

Just sayin'. It's okay to have faith that things will get better (in fairness, against all odds) if for the only reason that it's better than the alternative and it won't immediately harm you. Sometimes that hope can be channeled on a mass scale into material progress. In fact, probably no progress is made with a mindset of hopelessness. Sometimes that's a good enough reason for a paradigm shift. I'm sorry I don't have a better one, but it's one way to look at things.

If Alberta can elect the NDP Manitoba can elect the Liberals. All it will take is for the Selinger hate to last past a few Conservative administrations.

Unfortunately for them that means that by the time they take power there won't be a single revenue generating government asset left and they'll have no way to fund their 5 year consultant heavy studies on whether or not they should go get eggs.

Whats with the unwarranted optimism, the Liberals have been planning to balance the budget in Ontario in 2 years, for maybe a decade now.

Why won't Notely raise oil prices??? Why is she doing this? Do socialists just hate the economy? Does she not realize that she's destroying families and lives by keeping world oil prices so low? If she'd just fire all government employees and raise a militia to annex a strip to BC to build a pipeline none of this would be happening.

Are they protesting the lack of crony capitalism? Or are they saying that Notley is not socialist enough?
