So apparently my sarcasm was misplaced because I didn't understand how matchmaking works now. Supposedly you get matched with teammates with a similar MMR to yourself. The only criteria for matching one team against the other is that they are of a similar pip range. I guess this solves any notion of tanking your MMR deliberately.

I actually think the concept of "the wilds" is pretty cool and would be something that would draw me back in. But I am a filthy casual/add player and the thought of having to plan time around map timers and events that run longer than 10 minutes makes me barf.

I'm with you on this. Having a zone that gets more difficult the more you progress into it regardless of being in a zerg or not sounds a lot more fun than zoning into dragon stand 20 minutes before reset then praying you don't disconnect an hour and a half into it only to be told the instance you're trying to join back into is full.

First raid aint even done yet how the hell they gonna be putting that much effort into a new expac? I'm sure they're conceptualizing monsters and the storyline and areas, but thats probably about it (and this is a pretty generous assumption)

That actually made it really believable to me - the idea that, immediately after putting out the current failure of an expansion, they start work on the next one without fixing any of the problems. Just keep putting scaffolding up on their progressively mounting ocean of poo poo and try to out-build its rise.

There are dudes on other poo poo, but that other poo poo will probably never see the light of day, or will be poo poo.

For real though, we've still got at least one season of the living story to expect, as well as the ever-nebulous wvw overhaul, more legendaries and associated collections, more raids and rewards, as well as hopefully more fixes for all the poo poo that's still bad. This is on top of the stream of new black lion ticket skins and glider skins and more loving outfits.

They'll have like one dude making GBS threads out bird wings and the rest of the team trying to claw back anything they can from the ruins that HoT created.

Specialization weapons are neat and you get 4 skins in the process.

I finished Fix-r-upper this morning and can confirm that the specialisation weapons are cool+good. They're actually really not that bad to get, either, with the caveat that you need to have high level HoT masteries to finish them. A couple of loops through the full meta events for each of the new zones should get you basically all of the stuff (including the currencies) you need to buy all of the things so it'd take a couple days (if you're around on a weekend) to a week of casual play to get an Ascended weapon that looks neat.

It's only really grindy if you want to get all 9 of them and honestly I think that's probably okay.

The two that I looked at so far I don't have the masteries yet to complete but a few more rounds of DS and I'll be there--which is a requirement itself so I like where this is going.

The vendor at the end of Dragon's Stand sells the class Inscription for 50 crystalline ore and the plated weapon which is 150 of each of the map currencies+3 reclaimed plates (I think it's 2 plates for a one handed weapon). You also need some stuff from the various mastery vendors (250 a part) for the rest of the machined weapon and another thing from the Itzel vendor worth 300 airship parts.

Full breakdown for the currency required from the wiki (for Fix-r-Upper in my case, one handed weapons might cost less):
700 Airship Parts + 400 Lumps of Aurillium + 400 Ley Line Crystals + 3 Reclaimed Metal Plates + 50 Crystalline Ore

I'm new to the game and about L23 3 weeks into it. I'm just playing solo right now, enjoying a few hours here and there, but I was wondering if I'm doing things right. So far, I'm not spending any karma or gold on anything. It seems like my storyline quests every 10 levels keep me fed with serviceable equipment, with the drops in between keeping me alive and well. Is the road to L80 pretty straightforward if I just keep going this way? I figure the karma and gold will be useful once I'm at that wall where the gear doesn't get old so quickly.

You're fine. Gear progression in GW2 basically boils down to acquiring level 80 Exotic (orange) gear, which is pretty easy to do. The final tier of gear, Ascended (Pink) is gained via crafting (requires a LOT of money), some achievements, or exceptionally lucky drops. The stat difference is marginal, but Ascended gear has slots for Agony Resist, needed for high level fractals. However, you can get Ascended trinkets (earrings/rings) easily with laurels, so even if you never intend to do high tier fractals they're nice to get.

I wouldn't worry too much about saving your gold at this point because you'll be able to make much more when you're 80. Just try to upgrade whichever pieces are lagging behind with something cohesive. For example, if you're using a power weapon you should go for power/precision/ferocity gear. You'll come across some levels where the items are really expensive because the salvageable materials are valuable though, so you might not be able to afford a whole lot. For reference, a casual 80 can make 10g/day just doing easy daily stuff.
