And the amount of complaining about how 2GM is a high-tier power seems odd, considering Burst Shot exists.

Unless you already got gold or whatever, I'd totally take this offer up. The changes they made to the Specialist give it an insane number of power options that allow it to be played heavily as either melee, ranged, DPS, or tank.

Yeah that's a nice AT, even if you're subbed you ought to claim it at least. Thanks for the heads up!

This certainly does not have anything to do with Deadpool being a gigantic smash hit movie.

e: If they apply this philosophy of allowing a lot more build choices for ATs everywhere else it would be a very good thing.

This is actually the split right here. There's one cohort that wants to play "Deadpool," and there's another cohort that want's to play "Pooldead (Original Character Do Not Steal)." The first plays Marvel Heroes, the second plays Champions Online (and before that City of Heroes).

Marvel Heroes actually has too much loot, which is not something I'd have imagined myself saying about a pretty good ARPG.

Also you're stuck playing Marvel's characters, instead of your own Captain Shitpants or whatever. Making your own dudes is/was a huge draw of CoX/CO.

WarLocke posted:

That's just the bottom line of it. If you want to play Spiderman or Iron Man or whatever, you play Marvel Heroes or another hero game licensed to Marvel/DC. You already know the character you want, you can go out there and play them - Marvel Heroes' character and outfit selection is so staggeringly detailed for the Marvel universe that I doubt they lack any character a fan would want to play as.

CO/CoX lack of limitations, aside from clones, means just about any sort of idea is free-reign. So while you cannot be a direct 'clone' of an existing character out of outfit or name due to legal issues, you can certainly be something slightly inspired by them (which actually fits CO fairly well, because even the existing characters are strongly inspired by existing properties - Defender is extremely similar to Iron Man, for example.) Probably more importantly is that the degree of powers and costume pieces offered by the game means you don't have to limit your inspiration to just american superhero comics. Or even comics for that matter. Your characters can be as superheroish, or cyberpunkish, or noir, or anime, or retarded as you please.

That really is the big thing CO/CoX have going for them. DCUO as well a bit, but its costume editor on whole really is a lot more restrictive, and since most costume parts are tied to specific characters, that either means you have to plan ahead to get certain costume parts to make the look you want, or, what usually ends up happening, you just look like an MMO character by just using all the rarest stuff on your character.

WarLocke

I stopped playing DCUO a good while back, but from what I remember the costume part selection was heavily skewed to random robot armor bits and other grimdark poo poo. There was basically no support for actual tights type stuff other than the (bare-bones) starting tights options.

City itself let me have mastermind dance offs where my summoned robots would Micheal Jackson crotch grab as another player's Zombies did the robot.

Man I should totally lazily light people on fire while using regeneration in this game again. DPS is great but sometimes you just want to torch enemies without every worrying about dying unless it's a boss or you pulled half the area.

Meanwhile the PTS is also balancing more powers and ATs, and making new ones, including this:

Costume
The Rocker costume and two guitars for Heavy Weapons have been added to the debugger for testing. This is for an upcoming Lockbox.
There is a skull themed guitar heavy weapon freely available to players.
Known issues: The textures are still being worked on for this set.
The female jacket's cape collision is not yet finalized

New Archetype: The Rocker
This is a new tank archetype. This archetype will be available on the ZEN store.
Level 1: Bludgeon
Level 1: Cleave
Level 6: Defiance
Level 8: Guard
Level 11: Arc of Ruin or Hyper Voice
Level 14: Enrage
Level 17: Annihilate

Level 25: Thermal Reverberation
Level 30: Aggressor or Brimstone
Level 35: Resurgence or Vicious Descent
Level 40: Unleashed Rage
Known issues: The Rocker does not have a costume yet.
There is currently a problem with the power progression that prevents purchase of the powers.
Hyper Voice being a new Might power that allows you to scream at enemies for sonic damage and -sonic resistance.
Absorb Heat's a self-heal that consumes Clinging Flames to make yourself healthy again.

I know Brimstone can do it - that's actually the core of my INT Heavy Weapons build, dropping a flame patch with Brimstone and then unloading free full-charge attacks with Thermal Reverb until it goes out.

There are other HW attacks that add Clinging Flames with perks, but not as well as Brimstone does.

EDIT: They're adding some more clinging flames interactions to HW powers, too: http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/1204520/fc-31-20160210-15-nightmare-invasion-rocker-archetype

There's also a lot of little changes across the board. Celestial gets a new heal/harm power, Shadow gets a bunch of poo poo shuffled around (And they're finally nerfing Voracious Darkness, the bastards! :negative:) I really like that they're adding Trauma to lots of places. gently caress you, Ao'Qephoth.

Yeah I should've mentioned that a ton of the HW abilities were getting fire functionalities of various types. For example, Cleave just straight up applies clinging flames sometimes. Earth Splitter (cylindrical ranged attack) also can do this, and while this isn't a new patch thing, Magma Burst on Eruption can also achieve a stack.

One of the older patches, I think from around February? actually rebalanced Ao'Qephoth so that he overall healed much less, making him much less tedious to battle. Probably the biggest thing was making his passive healing much weaker from his passive. It was around the same time they tweaked Skarn's Bane to not remove enemy passives (one of two main methods of making Ao' much easier to beat.)

It requires a pretty drat solid team that knows what it's doing. Seems to have been engineered specifically to keep players busy. That said, the majority of current players feel super-discouraged by it probably because nobody feels like they can consistently do the lair, and it does give out tokens somewhat slowly. (12 GCR daily, 7GCR for 2 runs after that.)

What other attacks are you doing? All toggles, save Compassion, only trigger off of directly using powers. So in other words, you'll only be stacking if you're actively using poisoning infernal attacks like Epidemic.

Ego/Dex/Int is ok, but maybe a bit heavy on pure damage. I'd possibly look into getting a threat-drop move such as Evasive Maneuvers if you plan on using this combination.

Int might not be the best stat to trigger Supernatural Power off of, Infernal isn't exactly heavy on recharges, and you already have Ego to scale up your damage on Aspect of the Infernal Concentration stacks. If energy management is an issue for you, End or Rec could both work. Because with proper energy, a Supernatural character basically should never have to use their Energy Builder at all. Supernatural Power is ridiculously good.

Because of how demanding most alerts/lairs can be, I'd totally take CON as one of the superstats. This would remove the need for taking aggro-dropping moves and facilitate more upfront survival. I'd probably go as far to say that Ego/Con/Rec could be a good combination.

If I get far enough, gonna use infernal blast and defile. But right now its all just spam aoe moves in the city zone. Guess im gonna level him up to 14 to get that energy unlock now though. IS outbreak good for epidemic or should I just rank it up?

Pretty much only around the lvl 10s with all of my character slots dont know how much further I will get before another game comes out. Been using this gravator guide to know what single target moves to aim for and your steam guide for everything else.
