You would think so, but when the whole Escapist article was still new I decided to check over on the major places I knew really supported the site for whatever reasons to see how they were taking it.

The general reaction I saw was a mix of sheer apathy and even some doubts of the claims contained within the articles. And that's from places that would be most likely to support the place out of some sense of loyalty if nothing else.

For the average gamer who required being Molyneux'd multiple times over a decade until they finally realized that maybe they should stop blindly giving the guy money if they wanted to stop being disappointed?

The type that will endlessly complain about how ___ thing in a game has caused them to lose faith in it being any good, but will pre-order the full game or even the full game + season pass anyway?

Like maybe I'm just being extremely pessimistic but I don't think anything short of the game finally crashing and burning is going to do much in convincing the actual average gamer of this game's particular state, since they seem firmly set on letting themselves be deluded about the state of their games in general.

The politics of this are definitely more unforgiving for sites that go early on a story than later, and general gamer attitudes certainly don't help. I think that Croberts diatribe had a cooling effect on interest in pursuing this story until the Emperor is PAARPing naked down the street with an airhorn up his rear end and they can bury him for good. Otherwise it really will be a repeat of Molyneux which might be a serial thing, as the Daikatana fiasco suggests, and remember, no journalist or editor or publisher suffered anything by keeping quiet until the failure was undeniable

Remember too they have to keep in mind publishers who, while no doubt quietly aghast, want a nice wrap up of this little moral tale. It could be a long haul before Star Citizen Forever crashes and burns, and somehow I don't think crowdfunding itself really will suffer if the supporters are that dim. It just sucks it had to be the FPS space genre and not some dumb farmville-clone scam.

He was from somewhere in eastern Europe and he turns up at every single meeting of the cult dressed in combat fatigues and sporting serial killer shades, genuinely pissed off that he cant walk round strapped . He is physically fit looking, with a military haircut and looks like a stone murderer
He said , without the slightest hint of any bullshit that he could organize the silencing of any dissenters , he would do this for free and there were many like him in his guild/unit or whatever it was. Normally one would simply laugh at these idiots but this fruitloop had seen some poo poo, whatever that was.
He was actually one of the nicer ones. Some simply have no sense of personal space and have a strange aroma about them , others offer their girlfriends up or try and give you jewelry etc. One guy wanted to pay a small mortgage to have a star system named after himself and offered a blank cheque pretty much.
There are just too many to mention. The fourth Stimpire is just the tip of a very deep iceberg. They are mainly white , all male and the odd one has an even crazier looking girlfriend who will either be north of a healthy weight or look like Aileen Wournos.
Lots of nationalistic rhetoric , many of them see the verse as a fourth Riech. Dont know what else to say really you can see for yourself by the posts in various places what these guys are like.

Are you sure that guy wasn't the Stimperor himself?
Considering he's allegedly Serbian?

I don't see why it should - surely even the employees at CIG can acknowledge that the Fourth Stimpire is far more well-thought-out, entertaining, and has more personality than anything Chris Roberts poo poo out. I'm surprised they aren't embracing it. If it's not derivative enough, tell them it's based on the reavers from Firefly.

Or if these bomb-pumped lasers are using big bombs, why not just forget the laser part and kill stuff with a bomb (with blackjack and hookers)?

(Also the nuclear bomb laser weapons from Reagan's Star Wars didn't turn out to work in later nuclear modelling simulations AFAIK. They were also explicitly nuclear weapons, the beam was formed from x-rays made by thermonuclear fusion. Nothing of the sort happens with a regular TNT bomb.)

Yes. Obviously.

Pff. Orks. And of course you can't get your head around it when 'nuff dakka is already only within the realm of gods to achieve.

I was thinking more “too much to just make a hole”, since the whole point of the exercise is that you don't just want a hole — you want holes happening so fast it causes secondary explosions. Also, as mentioned, it was an entirely theoretical exercise that was never put into practice, so the hypothetical “too much dakka” is entirely rational.

And you need to overpower such a weapon, so as to maintain coherence over range in, erm, optically impaired environments. Of course, I also get spergy about lasers being constrained burst instead of beams, so I may not be the most receptive on this topic.

its the fact that the Stimpire stayed up for as long as it did. It was only after looking at other sites that the people whos job it is to check their own loving forum suddenly realized how bad it was. This also illustrates how little of a flying gently caress CIG give about any of that fan nonsense.
