I've seen posts in this very thread where people figured out that cutting your grass early on is bad and some person lost their watering can and couldn't get it back.

One is a non-issue since you can plant as much grass as you want for a pretty low cost and the second sounds like a bug (that has probably been fixed since) :)

You keep the bar on the fish by clicking/holding the left mouse button, yes. It's pretty easy once you get used to the "weight" of the bar and fishing can net you a lot of money. You should upgrade your rod ASAP because the fish bite so much faster with bait, it's only a couple of seconds between each fish.

It is because your fishing level sucks. The green bar gets bigger as your fishing level goes up, and once you have the Irridium Rod, you can use tackle to make it even bigger. Also +Fishing food you make or buy.

The dev increased grass growth and cut the cost, so grass is less of a problem. Yes, you should build a silo before you cut grass if you want to minmax, but if you don't have enough hay then just go buy some with your earnings from the animal products.

Watering can was most likely a bug. The worst you can do is lose a day of growing due to upgrading taking 2 days if you don't account for it.

Seriously, there are no fail states, just things that delay you from unlocking things sooner. If you really want to min max then play a year, create a new save file, and you'll know everything you need to know to unlock everything by Winter y1. If you don't minmax, then you'll likely complete everything by the end of year 2 anyway.

You get money NOW by selling to the stores, so if you harvest and sell to the store you have extra cash to buy seeds with. Those fish you keep getting at 11PM can be safely boxed, though.

That's a good point, I've occasionally sold forage or fish to get some money ASAP.

I know that they're good gifts for the villagers, but so is sashimi and I've got an endless supply of that :3:

On the other hand, you don't get the awesome end-of-day recap of just how much money you pulled in if you don't use the box. Those are the best on huge harvest days.

Nah, I let mine out without any fences whatsoever, both barn and coop animals. The worst that can happen is that they get in your way when you try to work on your crops. I guess there might be a chance that they eat one of them or something, but if that's the case the odds are so low that it is more or less negligible.

*Edit*

If you have pigs I guess the downside is that if they find truffles it might end up being anywhere in the entire farm area, though to me it seems like they are usually in fairly close proximity to the barn.

Cool, this is good to hear. And the animals will just find grass even if it's not near the door?

I will go ahead and plant some grass near the door just in case I guess though.

Worth noting that hay yield from cutting grass also seems to have increased drastically. I built a silo on spring 14 after having never cut any grass, and filled the drat thing to the brim in a single day, before I'd managed to reap half of the grass that existed in my farm naturally.

I need to build another at this point, but getting the clay is a pain.

Yeah, sometimes cows will go to the far end of my farm for grass (even though there is grass closer by near the back of the barn), never had any issues yet. It might take them longer to get back into the barn when evening comes though if you're present at your farm, whereas they'll just warp back if you're not (I assume).

Do items disappear if you deposit them in the Community Center without completing a bundle? I'm going to go through all my chests tonight to see what fish I still need to catch, and it would be a lot less hassle if I could throw the ones I already have into the CC.

I understand that Winter -> Spring kind of resets your farm so it needs to be recleared. Do big stumps or fallen logs respawn too? Need more hardwood to upgrade the house.

I haven't tried this is a while so it might have been fixed/changed, but when I was farming for Snow Yams a few patches ago I discovered that the plot you find a yam on will ALWAYS yield a yam. So if you just find a spot with a Snow Yam, cover it up with your pickaxe and then hoe it again, a new Snow Yam pops up. Repeat until you pass out from energy loss or 2AM rolling around. If it hasn't been fixed since then I guess clay might act the same way?

Items do not disappear if you put 'em in. It's actually a good idea to swing by if you have nothing else to do, just to save storage space.

You don't need to complete a bundle when you deposit stuff into the community center. That wouldn't make much sense, mostly because there's different things that can exist in each season. There wouldn't be much sense to make sure to keep the gold quality crops sitting in a chest all year long just so you can deposit them later all together. Or fish. Once it's in the bundle, it's there forever. It won't expire to my knowledge.

Animals are a trap, especially early game. Don't waste your money and time until you're well situated, and even then they're only really good for generating things for cooking, gifting, and finishing off the Community Center. The livestock-based artisan goods might be alright. But for Y1? Getting into livestock is basically just throwing that money away.
