What Cat Machine said works.

Try it in practice with different timings: if it doesn't come out at all, it's too fast. If it comes out and it doesn't combo, it's too slow.

Once you get that timing, commit it to muscle memory. An old trick I do when learning combos etc is to do 20-30 reps and if I miss, start again. Force yourself to learn that timing so that you can move on from it and you'll never miss. Also yes, double/triple tapping is recommended due to the frame buffer.

Doing a different kind of video today - I downloaded a Daigo replay and did kind of a play-by-play to break down what's going on. Pls let me know if you think it works

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcjRfo85agE

Fun video! I always like these things and would love more match analysis videos, but that's just me.

I just want to say, when Daigo has conditioned the opponent to jump in for free, at 8:09 he goes for a sHK anti-air but misses, but you didn't comment on that. I think it's a moment that shows Daigo's full intentions - he is going to punish all anti-airs that he can from that moment on, he just whiffed that one. The Chun doesn't realise and jumps in again, getting hit by another deep SRK, and this time the Chun stays grounded...for a short while.

This sort of punish you see a lot in tense matches where a player is conditioned to do something. You hit someone with something unexpected once, and chances are, in the next few moments, it doesn't quite register and you can go for it again. The Chun even gets hit by another anti-air soon after because going in by ground wasn't working and rushed instead. If a mixup works once, chances are it will work twice before someone notices. However, most people tend to remember these between matches/rounds..

Other things that could have been mentioned:
- The first V-Trigger for Chun I thought was a good mixup. When Chun activates most people right now are conditioned into "Okay, Chun's turn" and this Chun does an immediate throw. If a throw is all you need to win a match, this might be an option to consider.
- The first wake up Shoryuken conditions the Chun to hang back a bit after wakeup. The Chun rushed in after almost all knockdowns but the next two knockdowns the Chun decides to hang back immediately - and Daigo recognises this and never does another wake up Shoryuken.
- The Chun seems to panic when their back is to the corner - jump forwards or back throws ASAP. Compare that to Daigo, who, especially in round 2, seemed to relish the corner and used it to his advantage to try and bait the Chun into doing something stupid.

I'm sure there are other things that could be said too, but these I feel are worth mentioning from that particular match.

Here a question.

My region is pretty much isolated from the world being Southern Africa. So I never get matchups with overseas regions which is fine because it would be a laggy mess.
However I have pretty much added most of this regions players to my favourites (80+ players , some active and some not too much ) so we can game, and I can see what they are doing. edit: god the favorite section sucks

Now when I play ranked all I seem to get is the same 3 players all the time. But when I look in my favourites I see that other players I have never played are also playing ranked. Yet I never get games with them.

If its a connection issue with all these players that would make sense , however I doubt so many people in my region have a bad connection when alot of them I play CS with.

Now since my region doesn't have many players, matched with me, I have only managed to get to 1900LP. Does having this ranking limit me from players who are lower ( I say lower because I have yet to fight anyone in my region with a higher rating than me ).

I have opened all my ports for the game and for steam. I have had games against PC and PS4. So its not that.

Anyone else having issues like this?
Seems like I am missing a whole bunch of opponents in ranked.

Edit: The last opponent I fought 18 times in a row, over 2 days.

From what I've read, this is a NAT issue. If you have a router from your ISP (like a technicolor), then it really doesn't get along with how SFV is currently pitting players together. Like, if you're in NAT 1, then you'll only get matched against people in NAT 1. It doesn't seem to matter for those technicolor's if you forward ports or not.

Or it could just be your region has very few players. When I had the problem, matches took half an hour to find and I didn't get much of a variety of people. I just got a new router and SFV (and Fightcade) work fine now.

Well that sucks, I just bought a new router, and cant shell out for another one.

Edit: Just an update I tried a friends router and even changed location and I still get pitted against one player when there is other playing ranked. So I am not sure its a router issue.

This is probably a really really silly thing to be asking, but this video basically shows the issue I'm having with normal attacks that combo off each other. Any advice from the thread would be great. (If the answer is just practice them a tonne then that's fair)

Went through the same exact thing with Karin cr.MP st.MP. I just practiced for 15 minutes a day. After 4-5 days I could do it in training every time, after another week I can do it in a match every time. Just practice.

Mash jab.

She's at +2 after the elbow and command grab is 6 frames. So if you mash a three frame jab you'll get her.

A lot of characters have really good anti air normals in this game. I'm mainly playing Gief atm, and his s.lp is a wall. It's nice because after you aa with it, you get free meaty pressure afterwards since they are recovering for a bit in the air.

Chun's st.lk is the same thing, it's quick but it's an enormous hitbox out in front of her face. Chun's dash is fast enough too that you can usually get a dash-under mixup after.

I played some guy for about 20 matches (and lost all but like 2) but this was the conclusion I came to in the end. It's really hard being on the bronze/silver cusp and then playing sets against people who know how to play with characters you've just never seen played correctly.

I've started keeping notes of the things I learn in each match up to hopefully not forget things after dumbing down for ranked, it seems to help me so I'd recommend others do the same.

The problem is that Chun's stLK is actually designed to be an anti-air. Other stuff in this game anti-airs just by virtue of jumpins being loving garbage.

Totally diminishes the purpose of AA moves if you can just do whatever and have a decent shot of swatting the other guy out of the air.

I like the current balance of anti airs vs jump ins. They took away the universal options of invincible back dash, and focus attacks. So now you are forced to anti air or eat the pressure. The light button anti airs do very little damage, and reverse the pressure. That's a fair price to pay for the big fat jump in combo your opponent was attempting.
