Daztek posted:Star Citizen is the Soviet Union in this space race Not sure if this is the correct metaphor. The soviets did horribly dangerous thing in the beginning of space exploration and depending of what source you believe even hid a few of them forever in the closet (lost cosmonauts). They may have lost the moon race, but for a time they where definitely the "best at space". We may have laughed at the "farm tractor tech" they sometime used and they sure where unable to grasp the idea of nuclear safety but when they tried their hands at a space shuttle (Burane) its was designed and automated so efficiently that the few times it flew, it launched and landed all on its own, no pilot needed. Star Citizen would be closer to the NASA Shuttle program. A hugely costly, overly complicated, prone to failure (Gods bless all those astronauts) "try to do everything" giant experiment in space ship design that eventually had to be abandoned.

This made CIG/the USA go nuts and get an unfeasibly large amount of money at a goal they arbitrarily decided was more important, hit it, never do anything with it, then spend 30 - 40 years running out of money as all their support erodes away

Optimizations aren't going to come- it's supposed to be next generation, really pushing the limits of computer hardware with weird/nonexistent LOD models, straining your 128 GB of RAM with tremendous memory leaks, and testing your CPU by simulating the physics of every entity in the game environment at once because it's next-gen, sorry if your computer can't handle it.

I wouldn't say E:D is like Buran since it was a pretty obvious copy of the Space Shuttle, only flew once and then was destroyed in a hangar collapse. (Star Citizen is definitely more like that.)
