Image hosting is hard to get right, largely in that bandwidth is expensive and disk I/O is easy to get wrong. I actually recently deleted my waffleimages mirror data.

I do it for my own stuff just fine. I'm not talking about a waffleimages solution, just a personal image store. Works fine as long as your image doesn't get front paged on Reddit. Digital Ocean currently doesn't meter bandwidth.  (but warn it could come someday)

First you stabilize, then you expand. Not the other way around. And stop redirecting direct image links to a landing page with vote buttons and poo poo. That's got to take up more bandwidth than the image itself.

If I need to post something, I'll just use imgur, or just dump stuff into a folder on my site. The auto-generation of smaller sizes through Gallery was nice, but imgur does that, too.
