For a one man project I'm impressed at how fleshed out the game is at launch. I'm sure CA is going to add more content via updates at a later date, but even as is, the game is well worth $15. The lack of dialogue options is the main flaw I see at this point in playing, but it's mitigated by the gameplay mechanics being well done.

The lack of dialogue options might be the main flaw, but it's still relatively minor considering what you said. it's a one-man project, and he delivered on the game mechanics and overall tone. We're not poopsocking parsnips because we're into a deep and emotional story here. I think what he did was both perfectly adequate and also janky enough to be a proper homage to the SNES HM :v:

So I realized something a little strange. I never learned how to make bait despite being Fishing level 9. I looked, and the recipe definitely isn't in my list. I have a giant stack of bug meat and nothing to do with it unless I want to go the extra mile and make Linus's... special bait. Is there a flag I can change on my save file to give me the recipe or something? I care deeply about achievements and want the one for crafting everything.

Did you check the second page of crafting? Mine got pushed down there after I learned enough poo poo.

Yeah the writing and repeated dialogue is really my only complaint with Stardew Valley (besides the imbalance between some of the money making methods, but that can be fixed with a few number changes). The Rune Factory games totally spoiled me for writing, on RF4 I spoke to the townspeople as often as I could and they'd change topics of conversation almost every day - it took a while before they'd even begin to repeat themselves, and there were loads of unique events for them.

But still, it's absolutely incredible what a single person has managed to achieve here. Art, music, programming etc. all by one dude, it's nuts, and he deserves every bit of success and every day at the top of the Steam bestsellers list.

Are the conversations and character events moddable? Rather than pixel boob mods perhaps aspiring creative writers could release 'personality packs' or something :shobon:

Give it time, I'm sure there are people working on exactly that. In general, making pervy bullshit in this game is just modifying .png's in MS Paint, which is way easier than personality overhauls.

Like Leah's and Jodi's events, while he says that the event takes place the same day it basically have no time limit and can happen any day that meets the requirements for weather/season/time, so just keep trying at the appropriate hours and it'll trigger at some point. There's usually a 2 hour interval during which it can trigger, so just make sure it's the appropriate hour and it should happen sooner or later.

I suspect it's gonna be like Terraria where you play the game on release, finish/get bored with it after 40 hours, then come back a year later when CA has released a bunch of content patches and the game feels new again.

I suspect that's actually why I got locked out of Sebastian's 10 heart event in my old save. I met criteria for both it and Linus's 4 heart event, so it showed me Linus and then I never saw the other. I imagine it may have flagged both as seen since I met the requirements for both and they have the same trigger area.

Oh, maybe that's why I can never finish the quest to bring Jodi a Largemouth Bass at 7pm. Because I did exactly that, but entering the house triggered one of Sam's heart events instead. I tried bringing the fish another day, again and again, but nothing else ever happened.

Welp, I just crossed the 100-hour mark which officially puts this game into Elder Scrolls/Fallout/Civilization etc territory for me. I'm running a pretty swanky greenhouse vineyard, making ancient fruit wine to keep my wife Leah three sheets to the wind so she'll shut the gently caress up about me not having any crops for her to water. Only peasants water their own crops. #iridiumSprinklerMasterRace

Not much left to do at this point - did the community center quest line and the Qi quests, so going to watch the dev logs and see what he adds to the game.

They take 24 days to grow (+1 day for the seeding) so no, you should still be able to harvest them.

Yeah while writing mods aren't usually popular I think there's a good chance with this game because it seems like it would actually be fairly simple to add completely new characters, who will need their own writing, which will probably make people want to update the existing ones.

I try to buy one every time I see it in the shop (along with iridium sprinklers) so I have a plot of about 11 growing now (I'm also on Day 2 of Fall Y2).

Your kids should be like the gnomes. Teach them a simple task (watering, harvesting, weeding, collecting eggs) and let them do only one a day, with the caveat that it will take them most of the day to do it if you're patient.

Also make it so that randomly they just don't do the task because they "forgot". Just like real life. :)

From a developer perspective, it seems it would be pretty easy to code a sprite that follows you and attacks with you whenever you press the attack button.

Also, the lack of high-end weapon variation is really depressing, I enjoyed using the mallet and it's aoe smash, but there's no Prismatic/Skull Cavern variant. I never even tried daggers either so I don't know what their special is.

You should have at least one of the Legendary Fish for the Stardew Festival in Fall, the festival rates your display on item variation and item cost so having an expensive fish really helps.
Legend is best but you have to capture him by end of spring, Crimsonfish is second best because it sells for more and is easier to catch as a gold star.

That being said, I got 103 points at the festival using a legendary silver Angler fish.

What are the varieties of item you can put in the display? Off the top of my head I can think of

Artisan
Fish
Vegetable
Fruit
Mineral
Forage? (like mushrooms?)

That's seven. What am I overlooking? Or is it not possible to have all 9 items be a different variety?

I'm pretty sure now that if you meet criteria for two events with the same trigger screen, the one you see must cancel the other out. I got Sebastian's 10 heart event to work on my new save since I gifted Linus tons early on to get the bait recipe sooner, and made sure I didn't meet any other cutscene requirements for other people in the area.

I guess we just have to be careful about what we trigger and when, as much as that sucks.
