So a bunch of leftwing blogs have been hammering the CRA's amnesty for KPMG and their clients. I wonder what the Canadian Taxpayers Federation has to say about it? They must be all over this, seeing as they claim to represent hard working taxpayers and all. Oh. I see. Also, note that they don't want BC to stop levying MSP premiums. They're fine with $35K earners having to pay the same $1000 a year for healthcare as Chip Wilson, just as long as that figure doesn't change in the future. THC posted:There's that, but there's also "Because It's 2016" Yeah there's something to that, but it's interesting because the substantive gains made by women (in particular career focused university educated white women) since the 60s have coincided with a hyper sexualization of our culture. Feminist critiques of pay inequality have become part of mainstream discourse, even if they are still controversial, but my impression is that if anything criticisms of the media and unrealistic body images were more prominent in the 1970s-1990s than they are today (if someone can think of a counter example I'd appreciate it, as my impression here is 100% anecdotal). It's interesting to this increasing focus on the way that workplaces try to control not just the pace or intensity of work but even the way you dress, effectively turning food service into a barely sublimated form of sex work. I actually know a young woman who got pretty badly burned at a Burrito place a few years ago because she was working some kind of deep fat friar while wearing a crop top. And of course there are endless stories about servers being punished via withheld tips if they don't respond the right way to getting their rear end grabbed.

Currently, the NDP has 9/58 seats, 2 are vacant, and the rest are Saskatchewan Party. NDP will probably pick up a few seats in Saskatoon but may be hurt by the Liberals running a full slate of candidates (they only ran 11 last election).

THC posted:BC Finance Minister Mike De Jong's claim he doesn't use email fits a troubling pattern of failure to document, critics say This is ridiculous. If someone said they don't take phone calls or read their mail in a work context they'd be rightly ridiculed. Thirty years ago you wouldn't have been able to say that you don't read office memos. If you're a minister, it's your responsibility to keep up with your correspondence. If you aren't going to do it personally that's fine, but you delegate reading and responding. You remain responsible for ensuring that it's properly dealt with and that you're properly informed of the contents. "I don't use email" is a hosed up excuse to use for not being aware of something, because it means you're terrible at your job. Why would that be a reason that you'd admit.
