Bill Gates built an empire mostly out of other people's work, but he's definitely way more astute of a businessperson and a better person in general than Trump.

You are presented with two people:

One is a grifter and entertainer who has charmed his way into an okay-ish household name. The other is any other person with above-average functional leadership skill, let's say Obama, HRC, or whoever else.

Which would you prefer to become the motherfucking President of the US?

Those saying Trump is anything but a hack -- and lol those trying to say it's hard to see him as anything but a success -- need to remember that there is a very specific context for discussion with his name in it: this is a presidential race. Keep that context and stop trying to make him out to be an okay-decently-successful guy if you put him in a vacuum.

Yep, and more importantly the political landscape pre-Trump was that if Democrats could get their base out to vote, they'd win without any help from people outside of their body.

His nomination just makes that more likely.

I think the biggest threat from underestimating Drumpf is that people think he will continue to do all the utterly insane things he's currently doing to win the primary or that it will matter. This bloviating sack of orange poo poo has one skill in life, being a billionaire-inheriting self promoting charlatan.

I guarantee he'll get up in front of the cameras and start spouting off whatever the crowd wants to hear. Full on socialist rhetoric hijacking the other side's support? I loving guarantee it, he just won't use the trigger words that produce emotional reactions. He's going say completely contradictory things at the exact same time and it won't matter in the slightest. He'll tell one group Mexico will pay for the wall while promising full amnesty at the exact same time and it will not loving matter. It will be long, complex truths trying to run behind and explain all the ten second sound bite lies, and 24/7 media coverage will love every click baiting minute of it. His opponents are going to end up waffling around saying things like 'Yes I support that, just not from him', and how well has that been working so far?

He's only putting on the persona of insane racist hate-filled caricature because that's what is needed to win the Republican base. He may very well be those things personally but it will vanish faster than critical thinking about raw milk as soon as he's the official nominee because that's what a salesman does. He has no shame or values and will say then do exactly what the crowd wants him to.

See, this strategy would have worked in 1976 when there was segregation in media sources. These days the media all draws from the same pot. There's not going to be any speeches of Trump saying "I support the Mexican people" because everyone outside of the Mexican people is going to see that.

I still hold out a tiny grain of interest in the notion from a few months back in a USPOL thread that Trump is a DNC hitman here to sweep support from RNC voters only to laugh at them in late October and point out how easy it was to lie via an appeal to their anger and fear.
