Apparently five legendary fish, each one utterly unique in the entire world, merit last place in the grange display contest.

While I'm sure leaving four spaces empty didn't help, I take this as an indication that diversity in your grange display really does matter.

It's straight up canon that Lewis doesn't like fish, that's your problem right there.

I've only recently picked up this game. I'm more than halfway done with Spring so far, and I've been accumulating funds and not really worrying about anything fancy right now. The game can only barely run on my bad computer, and I even had to use workarounds to get it to run at all due to the nature of the built-in graphics card. But issues aside, I'm glad I went through the trouble of getting it. Hopefully it comes out on Mac soon so I can play it on my good computer instead.

Everyone talking about their end-game setups is a little intimidating. I'm just taking things slowly. But I'm also being efficient. I got hella Salmonberries and I'm using them to work through the whole day.

Here's some early game tips for you, if you've been playing the game past summer you probably already know this stuff. I think it's certainly useful info though, especially if you've never played a harvest moon style game before:

---It's hard to go wrong really, just keep clearing the ground on your farm, put anything you think might be a valuable resource like wood or stone (and fish) in a chest, sell what you forage or gift it to others (almost everyone loves berries of any kind, and you can get a LOT from bushes).

---I suggest you try to set up 15x3 plots to plant in (mine are mostly straight south of my house) and then plant a boatload of corn early in the summer (aim for 30-45 if you can). 15x3 plots are very effficient once you get sprinklers later, so it's a good habit to get into. Corn keeps growing through the summer and fall, so it'll be pricey and take awhile to pay off but once it does you have a revenue stream set up for two seasons, and it's the only crop that works that way to my knowledge. You'll also want to plant other renewables like blueberries and tomatoes as well, they just won't give the long-term benefits that corn does. Melons are worth a pile of money too, so that should be your #1 "one and done" cash crop, just be sure not to plant any too late in the season (probably don't plant any after the 15th). Grow hops during the summer, but do it in a kind of open space since the terraces they use can be hard to access/water, hang onto it once you make it since it's used in a lot of recipes and can make pale ale when you put it in a keg.

---You should fish once and awhile to mix it up, but the real money is in the crops and the mines. Any stuff you donate to the museum can be sold after you've donated one, you'll want to hang on to two diamonds for later in the game where you can plug them into a machine to spit out diamonds every week or so. You'll always want to donate anything the game lets you donate though.

---Try to save up as much gold as is reasonably possible to have a big planting season in the summer. The season change.will cause some damage/clutter to your farm, so be ready to do some re-clearing of areas you've already cleared. It'll also wipe out any spring crops and most of the soil you tilled, so don't bother spending energy tilling up plots in advance.

---You probably already know this, but scarecrows are important to protect your crops. They cover an 8 tile radius, I put one at each far end of my 15x3 plots then space them out about 5-6 tiles away from each other and don't have any issues.

---One thing the game told me super late but could be helpful to you way earlier: once you get beehouses, plant flowers near them (a simple square of 9 flowers is fine) and the honey they produce will become that type of honey, "tulip honey" for example. Put the most valuable flowers you can grow in each season there and the honey gets much more valuable, and can still be used for any recipes or quests that require honey. When you get to the end of the season you just harvest that batch of flowers.

---Any more detailed questions can probably be answered on the stardew wiki, which is here: http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki

You're welcome to add me as a friend on steam (assuming you're playing it on there), my steamid is cnkandrew and you can find my profile here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198018335051/. The same goes for anyone who wants to chat Stardew or get general tips. I'm not doing great on the marriage front (forgot too many birthdays), but I really like how my farm is doing in the middle of Y2 summer.

Hope this helps!

Is there any better tackle than the one that makes the bar decay slower when your line isn't over the fish (trap bobber)? I was fishing on the first day of winter and got repeatedly ruined by some ridiculous legendary fish so I have to get that bastard now.

What's the source on the legendary fish being unique? Because I have literally 5 of the Legend fish in a chest, and I'm curious if it's just a glitch, or if it's intended behavior.

I'm also not totally convinced you have to be anywhere near as precise about where you're fishing as people seem to think. I was only vaguely "near" the big log in the lake by the mines when I caught those.

From what I understand with the Legend fish bug, is that you can fish him as many times as you want that day. But then his trigger turns off at end of day and you wont be able to fish him again.

Ah, that would explain it; I basically set out that day as "ah, rainy day, time to go for the Legend!" and then just stayed there fishing until I collapsed.

I'm not really sure. After playing Rune Factory 4 and then going backwards to 3, I really missed the features that weren't there and didn't enjoy it so much as a result. I think it might be better to play from the beginning just so you can enjoy them all before you play the best one.

Then again, I also didn't enjoy RF 3 because 4 is pretty much the only one that lets you play as a girl, and all the wife candidates in 3 were one-note weirdos. Just my personal opinion, though. :shobon:

I definitely think the first harvest moon is still worth playing so, it could be like that.

Also, for the console versions, Rune Factory Frontier is fantastic, with one issue. Eventually you have to start managing these elemental spirits across the town. Doing so will rapidly increase crop growth time. Not doing so will slow your crops. Honestly, it's the only bad feature of an otherwise fantastic game. If you have a modded Wii, just use a cheat to set the Runeys (the aforementioned elemental spirits) for you.

Rune Factory Tides of Destiny was kinda 'meh' for me. You don't actually farm. You pokemon monsters and get them to farm for you.

For the DS/3ds games, Rune Factory 3 is my personal favorite. I have 4, but I never started it. I don't know why I didn't, probably because I picked it up alongside Pokemon Y when I replaced my 3ds.
