You can turn things off like the peer-to-peer updates and I've never seen a single ad. Like most things online or on SA or in Nilgoow's posts, it's way overblown and poorly informed.

Uh huh. This January I went to my dad's place for new years. He had a laptop upgraded to windows 10, and he wanted me to turn off some of the invasive stuff. Not only did that require a ridiculous amount of effort (including registry editing as some options in the settings actually didn't work), the OS was really buggy and annoying. Hey, maybe he hasn't updated it to the latest pack or whatever. All I know is that what I had to use was a piece of poo poo, and I'm not upgrading until I see a marked improvement.

I don't want poo poo forced installed on me no. But yeah windows 7 is loosing support and soon windows 8 will follow suit. By then I'll have switched. With windows 10 as it is now, not a chance in hell

"Go on until you're stopped."
It's not so much that Windows 10 is particularly evil or invasive, just that it's slightly more evil and invasive in ways that indicate that they're probably going to slowly increase the invasiveness levels via background updates until Microsoft can basically do whatever it wants to with your computer. They probably won't do this often, but eventually something heinous is going to happen. Plus of course the NSA is going to want in on whatever they're able to do.

Also it uninstalled my scanner utility program without telling me it was doing that. What's even up with that?

Windows Vista, 7, 8 , 10 is "Demonware" I run windows XP, (the last OS Bill Gates personally worked on before he was replaced) with hacked drivers so I can play modern games. It's a shame windows 9 was axed by the government cause it had no phone home root kits in it.

It manages your drivers by default and will uninstall the ones you install and silently replace them. You can turn this feature off.

My dad is the tinfoil dude, not me. Look, I'm not the kind of guy who will simply back away from something because of oogabooga spying on you. I think the OS is trash, I used it and it was not enjoyable. It ran like poo poo, looked like poo poo and was buggy. I'm guessing that wasn't fixed in 2 months, but apparently I'm in the wrong here. If you're the expert on this topic arus, you'll have to convince me otherwise. If you think I'm so wrong, you will have to actually give me some pros so I can consider them. Until then, my last look into windows 10 was simply unfavorable. :dealwithit: Thanks for beta testing it though. I'll enjoy it later when it isn't a turd.

And yeah, we fixed the processing issues in guild chat. I had gw2 set to have unlimited framerate. I cut that back to 30fps and it's not hogging everything anymore. It was a pain, and I'm glad I can watch youtube and play gw2 at the same time again.

I honestly think you're just trolling really poorly at this point because Windows 10 is objectively fantastic, and I can't remember the last time I encountered a bug but knowing your technical expertise you probably think OS bugs are literally ants inside your dust encrusted computer case so I dunno anymore.

No problem, glad I could give you a good introduction to the world of raiding! Thanks for coming out and helping make things a success :buddy:

For anyone who couldn't make it tonight, or who we did not have room for, I will be running another learning raid next week! I'm planning to do them every week for like the next month, and every now and then after that as there's demand for them. Raiding is actually fun and not scary if you're with people who aren't jerks!

I got my new Windows 10 Pro computer about a week ago. I had to change the Group Policy just to be able to stop auto updates, which apparently isn't even an option if you got Windows 10 Home. NVidia and Windows 10 have not been agreeing with each other the past week. Lots of sudden freeze-ups in GW2. Win 10 also just deleted every System Restore point I had, then disabled System Restore after I installed their latest update. Which I enabled earlier because somehow Windows 10 has it disabled by default. And tonight the NVidia driver started crashing repeatedly.

Dreggon posted:

This almost happened to me too, but I had manually made a Restore point on a whim, and after 3 reboots I finally got to use it. I'm still :wtc: that it was turned off by default, then turned off again after an update.

I cannot comprehend why you'd want to disable updates :psyduck: They're forced automatically because they contain critical security fixes that people would just put off. I have an Nvidia card, a 970, on Windows 10 and haven't had a single problem. Anecdotes can come from both sides, but I'm curious how you had so many issues, there's always a reason. I haven't had a GW2 crash since switching to the 64-bit client.

e: also Windows 10 being stable and good is pretty big and real because enterprises are finally moving to it, after being on 7 for so long
