Magres posted:Actual question: How much of the poo poo I see online about Win10 being awful and invasive is actually true? Only reason I haven't upgraded is because I keep seeing poo poo about invasive "features" of Win10 You can turn things off like the peer-to-peer updates and I've never seen a single ad. Like most things online or on SA or in Nilgoow's posts, it's way overblown and poorly informed.

Uh huh. This January I went to my dad's place for new years. He had a laptop upgraded to windows 10, and he wanted me to turn off some of the invasive stuff. Not only did that require a ridiculous amount of effort (including registry editing as some options in the settings actually didn't work), the OS was really buggy and annoying. Hey, maybe he hasn't updated it to the latest pack or whatever. All I know is that what I had to use was a piece of poo poo, and I'm not upgrading until I see a marked improvement.km_ posted:Haswell architecture doesn't support DDR2. poo poo you're right sorry. By then I'll have switched. With windows 10 as it is now, not a chance in hell

It's not so much that Windows 10 is particularly evil or invasive, just that it's slightly more evil and invasive in ways that indicate that they're probably going to slowly increase the invasiveness levels via background updates until Microsoft can basically do whatever it wants to with your computer. They probably won't do this often, but eventually something heinous is going to happen. Plus of course the NSA is going to want in on whatever they're able to do. Also it uninstalled my scanner utility program without telling me it was doing that. What's even up with that?

Windows Vista, 7, 8 , 10 is "Demonware" I run windows XP, (the last OS Bill Gates personally worked on before he was replaced) with hacked drivers so I can play modern games. It's a shame windows 9 was axed by the government cause it had no phone home root kits in it.

It ran like poo poo, looked like poo poo and was buggy. I'm guessing that wasn't fixed in 2 months, but apparently I'm in the wrong here. If you're the expert on this topic arus, you'll have to convince me otherwise. If you think I'm so wrong, you will have to actually give me some pros so I can consider them. Until then, my last look into windows 10 was simply unfavorable. Thanks for beta testing it though. I'll enjoy it later when it isn't a turd. And yeah, we fixed the processing issues in guild chat. I had gw2 set to have unlimited framerate. I cut that back to 30fps and it's not hogging everything anymore. It was a pain, and I'm glad I can watch youtube and play gw2 at the same time again.

I got my new Windows 10 Pro computer about a week ago. I had to change the Group Policy just to be able to stop auto updates, which apparently isn't even an option if you got Windows 10 Home. NVidia and Windows 10 have not been agreeing with each other the past week. Lots of sudden freeze-ups in GW2. Win 10 also just deleted every System Restore point I had, then disabled System Restore after I installed their latest update. Which I enabled earlier because somehow Windows 10 has it disabled by default. And tonight the NVidia driver started crashing repeatedly. Dreggon posted:it objectively rendered my computer unusable after a restart This almost happened to me too, but I had manually made a Restore point on a whim, and after 3 reboots I finally got to use it. I'm still that it was turned off by default, then turned off again after an update.

I cannot comprehend why you'd want to disable updates They're forced automatically because they contain critical security fixes that people would just put off. I have an Nvidia card, a 970, on Windows 10 and haven't had a single problem. Anecdotes can come from both sides, but I'm curious how you had so many issues, there's always a reason. I haven't had a GW2 crash since switching to the 64-bit client. e: also Windows 10 being stable and good is pretty big and real because enterprises are finally moving to it, after being on 7 for so long CLAM DOWN fucked around with this message at 08:22 on Mar 14, 2016 |
