I believe showing genitalia in a pornographic context is illegal in Japan, so tentacle rape came about as a way to show schoolgirls getting raped (okay) without anything disgusting like human sexual organs (bad)

That's what happens when you're surrounded by ocean on all sides.

You start looking to other things to be comfy with.

Don't forget about the various largely isolated lands and their sheep.

Humans are weird, weird creatures. Still doesn't justify shoving gratuitous tentacle rape into an otherwise not at all sexual or hentai related anime though! That's not even the weirdest sexual thing they did to Fem Guyver II though.

Like, as weird as that is to say.

So okay, tentacle rape, that's pretty loving bad. But technically I guess it kind of happens to the dudes too, in the anime and manga. Just not as explicitly sexualized and meant to be titillating. But whatever sure fine SURE FINE SURE FINE FORGIVE THE TENTACLE RAPE WHATEVER

Then you get to near the end of the movie, Guyver and F Guyver II are duking it out, and like in the manga, F Guyver II's control metal gets damaged and she starts to melt and warp and decompose and nasty poo poo happens. So the Guyver uses his big gently caress off chest beam on her.

In every single other media adaptation, movies, animes, everything, that vaporizes whatever it hits in one shot the end. Against Melting Guyvers, it atomizes them and if you briefly see anything, it's their twisted meaty remains before they too are removed from existence.

F Guyver II is instead of killed, stripped completely naked and instead of being a horrible mass of literally eating her own body alive mess like every other Control Metal-less Guyver, she's totally fine. So she hangs in the air totally nude, lets out an orgasmic scream, and then in the most sanitized way possible all of her body disappears in a gradual way until only her tits are left and they are the last thing to go.

Who ever animated the 1985 Guyver OVA was the loneliest, horniest animator in the world is what I'm trying to say. He NEEDED those precious seconds of anime tits to get him through his presumably horrific, bleak existence.

The worst thing is, outside of those two moments of WHAT THE gently caress WHY, the first OVA is a really cool thing with excellent animation and wonky looking character models that's great to see as a fan for how far it's come. I just can never recommend it to people because yeah, you're going to get hit face first with primeo anime bullshit.

The only nice thing I can say is that at least F Guyver II was a grown woman and not literally a child.

It's a lovely strawman/ad hominem attack dialed up to 11. "I am so certain that I am so obviously correct in this matter that I cannot believe any honest, open minded person could possibly hold the opposing viewpoint, therefore anyone who disagrees with me must be lying." I guess in the modern era it was popularized by :foxnews: but it's leaking out into other media.

I think I still have the ten or so VHS tapes of the Anime series in my cellar. All I can think of though is what a gigantic rip-off that was, the episodes were like 30 minutes long and cost as much as a regular movie. I could have owned ten+ copies of Fist of the North Star!

The episode where the five super-monsters fight Guyver and then Dark Guyver shows up owns, though.

I actually am because the first Guyver OVA is pretty fantastic all for 1985 anime. Great action, great animation, unique story that does something very different with the one everyone knows, F Guyver II has a unique Guyver design and is an even better fighter than Guyver II, Sho isn't a total putz, and you get all of the weirdo off model and not quite right designs due to it being made so soon.

It's this weird AU universe and I'd LOVE to see where it went after that.

Fat luck about suggesting anyone watch it though because of the literal tentacle rape!

Yeah, TMNT went through some weird thing where they had the voice cast do a lot of the mocap themselves on set. Then subsequently they replaced Leonardo with a new voice, to get a name actor I guess(?)Then also I think Leonardo's original mocap guy still came back for this one too, so I guess he wasn't too mad about it.

It's not that complicated to understand why people think you're lying. It's first, obviously, because the movies CD feels the most compelled to defend - the prequels, Transformers, Man of Steel, etc - are, among the fanbase outside of this forum, generally considered among to be failed, embarrassing, bottom-tier trash for idiots. Of course, this isn't the whole story. There's also standard goon contrarianism; annoying when pro-Trump, baffling when pro-prequel. But really the main issue is how they defend these films that leads many to assume they're simply lying, either to themselves or others. If someone defends an Adam Sandler film by saying "I know Adam Sandler films are dumb but I like fart jokes even if I know they're not exactly high art" that's a comprehensible defense. When someone says "I like Adam Sandler movies because the man is a secret genius exploring the Jungian archetype of The Fool" then it's hard to not assume that the person is pulling your leg, and this is the standard type of the explanations for why these movies are actually good; not "I just like bright colors and explosions" but bloviating about vague and not-particularly-insightful notions of "artistry," overwrought and poorly-substantiated fan-theories and headcanons about secret depth and moral complexity, and, last, appeals to the sheer length of arguments rather than their points or value. I've read people refer positively to the 128-page rebuttal of The Phantom Menace review and the 30,000-word "Why The Transformers Films Are Good" character-vomit just because they are very long, as though their length meant anything in particular. I could, with no difficulty, dig up ten 300-page books that purport to rebut whatever your political and/or religious beliefs are. So it is not hard to see why people, when looking at both the quality of the subject of the defense and the quality of the defense itself, tend to find it easier to believe that people are deliberately lying or playing some kind of game, rather than these are really their sincere opinions. It is certainly easier and more comforting to believe than the alternative.

I like seeing effort posts. I hate when "someone made an effortpost, therefore their opinion is unarguable and your are obligated you agree with it" becomes a thing. Someone making an argument doesn't make their argument persuasive even if they use a lot of screenshots or text. I read the entire Transformers thing, I'm glad they made it, I just didn't find it convincing and it's tiring to be told that I MUST be convinced by it. It's the problem with a lot of criticism on this subforum.

Rather than being a point for different analysis of a work it just becomes "this non-standard analysis is inherently right and we are smarter for having it."
