The casino guy will come around to Trump. Who won't are the multi-national corporate guys. Trump threatening to shut off the spigot of cheap labor and free trade scares them, they will sit this election out or jump ship to Clinton. I think some financial sector guys are genuinely worried because Trump hates them with a passion, but his written tax policies are as good to them as any other republican.

I think that's about right, although I'm guessing Adelson's support for Trump will also be lukewarm at best.

According to 538's arbitrary delegate targets that are different for each candidate? No, but just barely.

According to reality? He's in good shape.

Trump's perfectly on track on 538. They have him about 27 delegates off target but haven't put Missori in because it's unclear whether Trump got 42 or 47 there. When Missouri is added he'll be either 15 or 20 delegates ahead of pace.

Their pace going forward should be good for Trump even if he does get dicked out of way more delegates than they think in the non-voting rigged CO, ND, and rest of WY contests. Trump can make that up by seriously outperforming the rather humble targets set for him in Wisconsin, Maryland, and a few others.

That said, Trump would be in real danger of falling short if he lost Arizona next week.

maybe i am confused, but how would someone other than trump or cruz even have a chance at getting nominated at this point?

rules changes would need a majority of delegates to sign off on them and - assuming cruz gets his 8 states for rule 40 - he'd have no incentive whatsoever to agree to those changes. he'd want it to be just trump and him so he can leverage not being trump

is there another way to get someone nominated on the floor that ignores rule 40, or another way to change the rules that gets around the delegate sign off?

The delegates are bound for the presidential candidate vote only - they're not bound to vote a certain way on anything else. And while some delegates were hand picked by the campaign that won them, many (most?) delegates are either state party leaders or just random people who personally support someone besides the candidate they're pledged to. Such delegates would be very excited to vote for rule changes that allow them to vote for the candidate they personally prefer!

Most pledged delegates are also only pledged for one or two rounds of voting for the presidential candidate, and the rules committee can basically do whatever the gently caress they want if the delegates vote to approve it. So while they could refuse to recognize trump as a candidate or rule to unbind some or all of the delegates, they could also simply rule that to win in the first round you need 80% of the vote, and once trump fails to achieve a first round victory many of his delegates are free to vote for whoever.

Racist voters may have cost Donald Trump at least two delegates in Illinois.

The state uses a complicated system to choose its delegates, who are awarded when voters select a candidate and then choose delegates representing them on the ballot.

Congressional District outside Chicago, two Trump delegates named Paul Minch and Barbara Kois won with more than 35,00

Trump delegate candidate, Nabi Fakroddin, received just 30,639 votes – which allowed Pat Brady, a Kasich delegate and former state party chairman, to move past him and take the RNC slot.

In the 13th District, a Trump delegate Doug Hartmann won nearly 32,000 votes and two Cruz delegates won nearly 31,000 votes to claim the next two slots.

Raja Sadia, a Trump delegate, garnered just over 24,000 votes.

Wasserman also noted that a Trump delegate with a black-sounding name received significantly fewer votes than two candidates named James Devors and Rita Gaus.

Taneequa Tolbert will attend the RNC, but she received about 1,300 fewer votes than Devors and about 800 votes fewer than Gaus.
