I need to go on another vacation this fall, but I can't overdue DIsney (I mean I can, but I won't :( ). Do you guys reccomend any other theme parks? I like roller coasters and such, so I was debating on Cedar Point or something like that.

Disneyland and a return trip back to Universal Orlando are on my itinerary(sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet Braks). I just really really really hate driving.

We were at AK today and the cranes and folks working on the mountains were going 100%

Any DVC members here? I put a deposit down on some Poly points direct from Disney, but I'm really thinking picking up points resale is a better bang for the buck.

They're including the 2015 builder points if you buy direct, but direct is up to 168 bucks a point and will probably be 171 by the time summer is over.

I know you literally just said you hate driving, but I'm not sure how to do multiple parks without it. Six Flags Great America, Cedar Point, and Kings Island make a nice little triangle. 3.5 hours between the Ohio parks, and 5 hours to get from them to Chicago. All have things that are absolutely worth riding. Cedar Point is self explanatory. Kings Island has The Beast, which is an absolute gem of a coaster. Great America has a few things worth making the trip for, including Viper, a clone of the Coney Island Cyclone, and Goliath, an RMC that I think just looks like the sort of thing you build in Roller Coaster Tycoon to gently caress with your guests. Great America is more out of the way, but I like to include it in that trio because it's the park I grew up with. :3:

I'm posting a picture because I love this picture.

Considering that it's a multi-hour drive between each of them, you may be best just staying in town for a day or two before driving to the next one. I've done that before and found that two days is usually how long you'll need to complete every ride at an average amusement park like Six Flags or Cedar Point simply due to wait times (unless you spring for their express pass equivalent). Also keep in mind that some amusement parks like Six Flags Over Georgia can be much, much touchier than Disney and Universal about rain. I once saw them attempt to basically shut down Six Flags Over Georgia because of a (by Florida standards) relatively mild thunderstorm and tell everyone to evacuate to indoor areas as if a tornado was about to come through. Even indoor and non-coaster attractions were being shut down over it.

There's going to be a simulator attraction that's going in the huge show building. The ride system is supposed to be a more intensive model of the Soarin system. There's also going to be a boat ride.

Disney has completely spoiled me on ride loading efficiency. There's a couple parks near where I live and the roller coasters only have one train! It takes forever to move the line that way!

Kings Island has a pretty big water park right across the interstate from it, and the Newport Aquarium -20-25 min down the interstate in Covington (right across the Ohio River from the Reds and Bengals stadiums) is top notch. You can make a really nice weekend just exploring that area. I haven't been to KI in about 11 years, but I drive past it when heading to Bengals games. I loved it as a kid and in college.

Everyone I know from home loves Cedar Point, I never went because it was 4 hrs vs 2 to Cincy for me. and I wasn't obsessed with big coasters. But you can't go wrong with either. CP more for the thrill rides and KI for the entire area. If you wanted to do both, it would be possible in a 3-4 day weekend, depending on how much time you wanted at each and where you were going. Drive time is probably 3-4 hrs via interstate 75 and then whatever takes you across the north end of the state. I would recommend exploring the Cincy/KI for a weekend, and exploring CP/Lake Erie/Put-in-Bay area as two different things. Going out on the lake is great.

My first time riding it was in the last row and getting whipped over the hump for the first drop is one of a very few times that a ride has outright startled me. It's a great coaster. RMC basically can do no wrong.

Hulk is getting "storyline enhancements" and new trains. I was just poking around for news and apparently some of the supports aren't the standard style for B&M, suggesting that they're splitting the fabrication work up (unlikely; B&M knows what they're doing) or that they'll be adding scenery or something around the footers.

Abu Dave posted:

The usual; some walk ons, some 60-90 minute long waits. Here at Six Flags St. Louis, almost everything is walk on status except for Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, a dark ride, which I've never seen below 60 minutes. (I love my home park. :3: ) I went to Great America for the first weekend of Fright Fest last year; average waits were maybe 30-45 minutes, with a consistent 90 minute wait for Goliath, maybe an hour for The Dark Knight (family rides attract longer lines). X-Flight, strangely, was running a short line the entire time.

The biggest difference with local parks is that attendance trends are far less smooth. Weather makes a huge difference when the majority of your patrons are within an hour drive. Weekdays are always way less crowded, even during the summer.

Also, non-Disney and Universal parks are often far harder to gauge wait times with. Some (like Six Flags Over Georgia) use signs in the queue itself that say stuff like "30 minutes from this point" and don't have a wait time sign outside. Some (like Cedar Point) do have signs, but they're manually adjusted signs in quarter-hour increments.

I figured. The shoes are usually a giveaway between the working managers and the higher ups that don't day to day in the park.

Most of the guy managers I've seen have rubber soled, somewhat worn dress shoes. They look good, but you can tell they put some miles on them

I did see a group of what I assume was higher ups. Older grey haired lady wearing suede Italian loafers with a few people around her. Guessing she's important.

It's been busy as hell this week but we're still having a good time. Trying to work around the crowds as much as possible. Hitting the parks in the AM and taking a break between 2-6 then closing MK down at night.

Honestly don't get the hate towards Disneyland Paris. It's easily the most beautiful and most detailed of all the Magic Kingdoms, and has the best versions of several classic rides. Yes it's losing money and yes it's had problems in the past but if you refuse to visit it on principle you're really missing out.

Having said that, a LOT of stuff is closed for renovation this year but 2017 is going to be awesome.

But yeah, visit everything you can. Variety is the spice of life!

yeah, most of the time if you see a dressy outfit on someone, they are a "leader" or "guest experience manager"

If it's a coordinator, they either wear the same costume as the cast (in Merchandise anyway) OR they have seperate costumes. we have brown costumes here that are usually referred to as peanut butters by cast.

There is really no need for a tripod in the parks. Everything is so well lit that any modern camera/lens can capture anything you'd want a photo of. Even night shots are easy handheld. I took these with an old Canon xTi and kit lens:

EDIT: yeah, unless you want to do long exposures, but that's a specific niche that isn't worth the hassle if you're here on vacation.

I bring a tripod pretty often. As long as its compact enough to be carried in a bag it's fine. Mine attaches to the back of my backpack and I've never had an issue. Whether it's worth it or not depends on the type of shooting you want to do.

The main reason I want to take one along is longer exposures at night. There's a couple spots I have memorized in my head from my last trip where the lighting was really fantastic and wanted longer exposure shots of. I just wasn't sure if, given how crowded the park was last I went in late September, if the park frowned on it or if I'd be taking up too much room for other guests. I don't want to be rude or anything to others trying to enjoy the parks
