Yeah I'm a huge fan of the series, but Phantasy Star 4 is the only game of the bunch that's still particularly playable at all. 1&2 are good in terms of theme, characters, story, and such, but actually playing them is a huge chore without emulating and turboing the poo poo out of everything. Just the worst of the worst of classic jRPG design of getting random encounters literally every 4 steps, absolutely nothing interesting going on in terms of combat mechanics or encounter/boss design. PS4 doesn't have a ton going on in terms of gameplay, but it's got enough, and it moves at a breakneck speed for the most part so it's not a bad playthrough. As long as you can still tolerate random battles anyway. I'm always impressed when Genesis games have good soundtracks because the entire instrument bank of that console sounds like machines farting.
