When I saw em, Dixie took a shot of whiskey mid-song from someone in the audience without missing a beat.

Jean-Paul Gaster is probably the best rock drummer alive today. As good as Clutch's albums are, nothing compares to the funk they bring to their live shows.

I feel like I've said this before, but the next-to-last time I saw Clutch was with Lionized and Wino, and Gaster played drums for all three bands. Dude drummed for like three and a half hours and was on point the entire loving time. Guy's a legend.

Also you couldn't hear no vocals at all during the show. I have been to this club several times before to see bands (everything from black metal to Americana), and this was the only time I've had this issue there. I hate to say anything bad, because overall I had a good time. I'm just a little disappointed given the hype I heard before hand about them live.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the massive cranked amps? I'm no expert on the subject but when you have that crazy wall of sound it can sometimes drown out the vocals.

Yeah, the sound guy just likely wasn't up to the task. Takes a real professional who knows the venue well to mix a band who play loud from their amps and cabs, not just the PA.

Like how would they even top that list? Even as a hypothetical it seems pretty damned hard.

Seriously, goddamn. Kind of shocked that Lecherous Gaze is getting such high billing, I found their s/t EP pretty dull; are their two albums a big step up?
Also glad to see Disenchanter on the bill. Nice group of people, and their new album showed them experimenting in cool ways, so their live shows should be a treat.

Not to mention Boris, I know they don't do much in the way of slow sludge anymore but it's weird to see them so low on the bill. That said with that lineup it must have been a hell of a task figuring it all out.

Oh well, at least I got my temples ticket! Passing on Roadburn this year for another festival, breaking my 5-year streak. I'm gonna be sad to miss Cult of Luna playing Somewhere Along the Highway and some other gems, but I'll get right back to it next year.

e. neat little detail someone pointed out to me, on Bongripper's Her Highness the non-palm muted chords count out the digits of pi. :toot:

Didn't he call it quits for Goblin Cock last year? I swear I remember them announcing the band was done.

I'd love a new Goblin Cock album though.

Wow, this is an interesting one: https://borismerzbow.bandcamp.com/album/gensho

The first half is new recordings of old Boris, without drums, while the second half is all-new Merzbow which has been composed to play alongside the Boris half. Sort of like the Rosetta LP. It's released today so I'd really like to get my hands on it. The Heavy Rain recording is so good.

Wow, I had no idea Pinback was related to Goblin Cock! I'm a very casual Pinback fan. I ran into the song "Good to Sea" on Spotify and struggled for days to figure out how I had heard it before, I never did. I really like that song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h9QFXviJ2E

if anybody remembers me asking for inspo on doom drumming, we have a demo out but the plan kinda changed.
I found a broken guitar that I started playing for a percussive voice and the concept kind of exploded from there.

its still grounded in its sludge roots though, so if anybody is curious, here's what we did:

it's a little weird and only 2 days old so the perspective of strangers would be much appreciated :wooper:
