Mezzanine posted:That ME ME ME video is the gift that just keeps on giving. No matter how blatantly anti-otaku it was, people still make fan art of it and otherwise obsess over it, thus reaffirming the message of the original (not that it necessarily applies to the pictured cosplayer), or they're "parodying" it "ironically", which is even funnier. Can you explain this a bit further? I've never heard about it being anti-otaku (mostly because I saw the video once and then just listen to the song because I like TeddyLoid), but I'm really interested in that message.

The video is chock full of imagery about his relationship with fake women being destructive towards his any hope at connecting with a real person, his attitudes towards women in general and himself as a person. It literally portrays him as being simultaneously attracted to and terrified of women, which is where a lot of mra/mgtow bullshit comes from.

Also lol at the thought of some music video with an attractive anime girl not getting tons of porn, fanfiction, avatars on dying webforums, and youtube reaction videos in a world where a Nazi anime card game exists.

Unfortunately, because it is full of fanservice, violence, and references to tons of shows, young men are going to watch it and go "yeah cool" and completely miss the point

If a costume is so good that its basically camera ready and could actually be used in a movie, is that even cosplay anymore?

Basebf555 posted:If a costume is so good that its basically camera ready and could actually be used in a movie, is that even cosplay anymore? Yes. You see plenty of high end costumes at conventions, but the ones that are slightly off or are "effort" tend to be more endearing in a "you tried" kind of way.

Remember when Yaya Han cosplayed as Jessica Rabbit? Apparently it was a lot more complicated than just squeezing into a sequinny dress ... quote:Jessica Rabbit was one of the most challenging costumes I had ever made at the time. The shape is not photoshopped, just clever cosplay engineering. I drafted & made a custom corset to create the extreme shape and then made the dress to fit over it. I engineered 2 Victoria's Secret Miraculous bras into the corset, which is steel boned coutil. The extreme illusion is created by pulling in the waist, padding the top and wearing a booty bump hahaha.

I'm not sure why the heavy 'shopping, she looks AMAZING and the costume is very well executed, the 'shopping takes away from the touches of the fabrication IMHO.
