The game was driven by a neat idea, but the developers probably didn't realize room design needs a little bit more effort to make good in a platformer than, say, a traditional roguelike.

I had fun with Rogue Legacy despite how shallow its platforming was. It was fun to run around and hit things and collect the coins.

"Metroidvania" is a good word. It conveys a complicated idea accurately and succinctly. There currently isn't a better way to refer to these kinds of games. I love video games.

I liked Rogue Legacy. It had problems but it was fun to unlock abilities and play as varying weird versions of Arthur from G&G and explore a castle. FTL is best rogue thing though imo.
