why are they good

To be perfectly honest, I can't quite explain my love of robots. It's probably an autism thing actually.

With that said though, part of why I like them is that they're often used as symbols of human possibility and achievement, which is something I like. Also when giant robots punch each other and metal flies everywhere and they crash through buildings that's cool as heck.

"Mecha" isn't really a genre since it just describes a common setting element and doesn't tell you anything about the actual show/manga (Evangelion is not First Gundam is not Mazinger).

and some stuff classified as "mecha" doesn't even focus on it at all. Like, I'd call Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still a big budget wuxia/kung-fu anime long before I'd label it "mecha".

and the OST reminds me of CROWD's a bit in its synthy, fighty moments, which makes sense because it's a Tasunoko production

All the time. Maybe you should stick around and talk about animes and make enemies friends while you wait for events to unfold.

i also remember reading about a mech show a long while ago that put more of a focus on the mechanics of the team, like the guys who kept the mechs running. that one seemed interesting too

wish I could tell you, but all that brings to mind is Majestic Prince, which isn't mechanic focused even though each of the main characters has a rad pit crew that end up being huge bros or like family to them.

maybe this
