The Exquisite Timing achievement was way less painful than I was expecting it to be. When you can school Avatars with tier 2 weapons, you know XCOM soldiers are better than aliens.

Speaking of that achievement, I missed it by 3 hours. I would have had at least a day to spare but got hosed over by a Base defence wasting a crap load of time. Back to an earlier save I guess. That said, I defended the Avenger and got me an Avatar corpse. I would have been hosed if my Specialist didn't have 4 Meds and restoration.

Its not quite ready yet. I spent the last few hours tracking down how the gently caress the skyranger is even called into a scene. Answer: horrors beyond your wildest dreams. But i figured it out, I did it in one test case scene, now I just need to extend it to every skyranger scene.

Are mid-mission Advent reinforcements unique to commander+ difficulty? I swear on Normal they would only drop them once I'd cleared the rest of the map.

I always thought they were timed/based on turns left. Especially on VIP rescues, if I get bogged down with early pods I would get reinforcements in the middle of the mission, but a could times if I grabbed the VIP early and just booked it to the extraction the reinforcement notification would come in right as I was evacing.

I've seen people ask and get mod permission to run a LP in a non LP forums thread before if a lot of people liked it, you have a nice voice tho and might actually do well in the LP forums themselves with a normal series if you are interested in that kind of stuff.

Also turn off cloud saves for when you're attempting a fresh start - had a similar crash on start-up with Long War once due to this.

Melee attacks only makes sense if you savescum a lot. Running troops forward to do melee attacks have an unfortunate tendency to activate new pods.

The advantage of phantom is that you can explore without triggering pods - and also the wonderful posibility to trigger pods with sharpshooter OW on the aliens turns. Which is super-useful if you do not savescum to avoid the turns where too many aliens got activated.
[/quote]

I think that's only happened to me once (or at least, only once where I didn't just kill them too), but I usually have a scanner or scanner protocol out. I don't savescum either.

If you actually use the 'Slash' button they will path however they want. However, if you kind of hover the mouse in-between the target tile and the tile you want to end on, you'll get a little sword overlay with arrow thing; right-clicking there will make the soldier run to the designated tile and attack from there.

Also, just came across this on reddit re: power relays and exposed coil rooms:

quote:

The UI is a very misleading re: power from relays overall, but on conduits in particular. Building a normal relay gives +3, with +5 from another engineer. +2 from the upgrade, +5 for another. Altogether, 15 power. Can get another +6 from the Elerium upgrade. Numbers from here.

On a power conduit, that first one is built at 10 instead of 3. The UI will tell you all sorts of crazy numbers, mostly by showing you what the power is after upgrade rather than showing you differences. But really, it's just that +7. So there's a +22/28 with a conduit, vs. +15/21 without.

A Psi-Lab is 5 to build, 5 to upgrade. Totally (+3 different) better to build on conduit than a power relay. Shadow chamber is 5+4, or 2 better than the relay. Comms is 3 + 4, which if I'm doing the math right is "equivalent to" rather than "better"...but still, equivalent to.

So if his numbers are right basically you should use the two guaranteed exposed coils for the Psi Lab and Shadow Chamber, not any power relays...

Looks like the most popular class mods right now are Rogue, Infantry and Trooper. Rogue seems a little goofy, but maybe it's just the Assassin's Creed logo making it seem that way. Meanwhile, Infantry and Trooper seem like they both fill similar niches. Anyone used them that has major opinions one way or the other?

I feel your pain buddy. I slept walked through two Veteran campaigns, but I'm on my 3rd Ironman Commander campaign because I keep getting my rear end kicked in. :(

Edit: Oh, and is there a reason that ALL my voices stopped working? Whether in the base or on a mission, no one speaks. The game will hang with dead air when someone is supposed to be talking, but there's just ambient noise and an eerie silence. I'm going to restart Steam and then verify, see if that works.

Yeah I agree, I'm starting to work on modding in a different style for most missions, instead of being able to win a map, reinforcements build up exponentially once you break concealment, so you're forced to complete the objective ASAP before you're overwhelmed. Baby steps though, have never used Kismet or UnrealScript before, although I think I can do near everything in Kismet just overriding the Mission Maps.

Yeah, I find the best way to do it is to move the cursor over to the diagonal tile as if I intend to just move there, and then slooowly move the cursor into the enemy tile. When the tile turns into a sword icon, you just right-click and you're all set.

It's much more likely the percent chances they display are inaccurate. I had 3 guys left conscious with 1 muton left. First round 3 85% shots because he had no cover, all miss. Muton melees one guy and knocks him unconcious. Second round 2 85% shots because still no cover, miss. Muton knocks second guy unconcious. Third guy missed his 85% shot. Muton runs up to him, stuns him. Guy comes back from stun but is out of ammo, can't shoot the adjacent Muton. Muton finishes him off next turn.
