User experience. It's way cooler having album art and poo poo on a full colour hi res display than text. I mean iPhone has small icons in a list so I don't know what the gently caress android is doing but it sounds terrible.

Wave of the future baby! You don't want lists and actual useability, that's dumb. Here, I'll tell you what you want. You want big flashy colors and cool graphics so you can impress the stranger who might happen to see your phone from over your shoulder while you're dicking around on it at Starbucks! Cool!

It's because phones got rid of real buttons in place of lovely touch screen technology, and so you have to make every clickable thing really big so humans can easily press it with their fat inaccurate fingers. edit: but even then it'll only work about 75% of the time or so. My favorite thing about smart phones is when someone taps something on the screen and it doesn't register, so they tap it again but harder while moving their head cock-eyed toward the screen as if to say "uhhh hello??" I like the big album art, but I hate artist photos. I don't know what most artists that I listen to look like, so their images don't help me find anything. What I hate about Google Play Music is that it prioritizes streaming over your library. I search for an artist and get the artist page and related artists, streaming albums, single tracks, then my library. No, Google, I want MY stuff first.

Like with one of the Android screens on my phone, there's big buttons to turn on/off Wi-fi and Airplane mode next to each other. Which is fine, but if you want to change the Wi-fi setting, like, to choose a new Wi-fi network, there's a tiny additional ... button between the two big buttons which you need to click accurately. I don't have fat fingers at all, but it's probably about a 50-50 chance of hitting the ... or just switching to Airplane mode. An almost anatomical level of trolling from the developers there.

I'll be honest, what I miss most is the album art in general. I miss opening up the new CD (or tape!) and flipping through the album art/lyrics/pictures/poems/whatever that they'd have. Metallica or Nine Inch Nails were the best for this. Also Rob Zombie of course. Tool. I wish I could see more than the drat cover.

Certain albums come with additional digital booklet PDFs that I look through once before archiving and forgetting about. Not to be an analog music vinyl hipster purist, but that's why I've started buying records for the stuff I'm really excited for. I still listen to most of my music digitally, but sometimes it's nice to handle the physical object.

Theres also the opposite where some tiny imperceptible brush from a finger or even on the edge from the hand just holding the phone (because there's no bezel) makes it freak out and switch away or do random poo poo One reason buttons are superior to touch most of the time is that you can locate and correct your finger via touch without actually pressing the button. I know there's pressure sensitive touchscreens now but retarded ui designers have decided that this is a great opportunity to make even more hidden unintuitive menus by making it a right-click menu instead of fixing the most annoying thing about capacitive touch.

Phone cradles for cars that have those massive wings on either side of the device. Like every single major phone on the market is less than 10mm thick. Having 30mm of rubber padding on the side is pointless as gently caress and as an added bonus, the cheaper ones tend to put the pads right next to the keyboard, meaning you cant easily get your finger to the edge of the screen. For example: Although this one is OK because it has an adjustable foot height, so you can make the wings sit above the keyboard by dropping the foot to its lowest point.
