Acebuckeye13 posted:You're thinking of normal Guard HQ tanks. Armored Battlegroup is a bit of a different beast-it's Forge World's "You want tanks? HAVE SOME loving TANKS" army, where treads are cool and mans are dumb. HQ units? Tanks. Elites? How about Commissar Tanks? Troops? Tanks, duh. Fast Attack? We got fast tanks. Heavy Support? Oh, you know we got tanks. Unfortunate it predates the point and rules adjustments from IG's 6th edition codex, and since Forge World hasn't bothered issuing an FAQ it's not quite as good as it once was* (Especially since Guard can just take formations of tanks now that are cheaper and get special rules), but it's still got some nasty, nasty surprises for anyone who's not familiar with it. Twin-Linked Beast Hunter Shells More specifically, AB brings a BS4 LR vanquisher that can choose to shoot a 72" strength 8 ap 2 small blast with Instant Death that on a 4+ forces cover rolls to be rolled twice. The cannon gains twin-linked if you can hit the target with a heavy stubber. I had been looking for an answer to AM's MC problem and Beast Hunter Shells seem like just the thing. I played a game this afternoon with one of them and it one-shot a riptide and a tau commander and hosed up couple squads of crisis suits. According to how I understand the rules nowadays: at 2000 points, I can run a CAD infantry army out of the codex and an AB CAD with tank hunter melta-vets, Command Tank Beast Hunters and objective secured LRs. E: does lumbering behemoth do anything in this edition? If not, does that mean that AB tanks technically can only fire one weapon a turn if they've moved? E2: lol I can take a transport capacity 12 vendetta at 130 points. The Kingfish fucked around with this message at 06:32 on Mar 22, 2016 |

So I am thinking of modeling up a Chaos Lord with a jump pack, giving him the mark of Nurgle to unlock Plague Manatees, and throwing him into an unmarked raptor squad. Is this a decent idea for casual gaming?

Bikes are better generally, but Raptors do have their uses. Also as a Floridian Plague Manatees sound pretty legit. Considering the current state of lake Okeechobee they'll be coming soon enough.

It's not a bike, but it's solid. Consider a loadout of Power Fist + Lightning Claw. Each is a specialist weapon to give you +1A, but you can choose the one you want to use for your attacks for when you want I5 AP3 Shred vs. hitting vehicles.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was definitely thinking lightning claws and power fist, as I have always enjoyed that combination. As for bikes, I know that seems to be the go to toughness tank build for MoN but I just don't see bikes really fitting into the theme of my army so I have been avoiding them. Now I just need to find a spare chaos jump pack.

Kilo147 posted:Any reason why I shouldn't put a Kill team on the 32mm bases? Not really. If you're making a Kill Team and want to model out some cool base options it's better than the old 25mm standard. GW has said it's basically personal preference which you want, so do whatevs. There's reasons to do it both ways. jadebullet posted:Thanks guys. Yeah, I was definitely thinking lightning claws and power fist, as I have always enjoyed that combination. Just remember that you're going to be majority-toughness 4 with your Nurgle Chaos Lord until four other Raptors die. T4 makes it a lot easier to dump a ton of wounds onto the unit than T5--if you have the points give them all a Mark of Nurgle, otherwise you might quickly find your bling'd out Lord boltered to death. The dumb turbine jump packs with spikes growing out of the turbines are lame, sure. But I just posted photographic evidence of an awesome jump pack. All of my raptors have them too. I was up to like thirteen to fifteen before I ran out of steam. 32mm bases were a godsend for those idiots.

Yeah that Raptor Lord looks awesome. I am really tempted to try and find one of those old metal jump packs myself since I feel it would fit the base model I am using better. Plus it would differentiate him from the regular Raptors better. The spiky packs still aren't that bad once you chop all of those finger stabbed off. The hard part is getting the inside of the turbine smooth.

If you don't mind doing some greenstuff work to Nurgle it up, you could always use the winged backpack from the Possessed sprue.

Real men use metal 2nd ed gargoyle wings But if you want the old metal packs, I'd recommend getting the finecast ones that, while rare, won't destroy your model's balance. The jump pack lord is easier to find in finecast since he's still being sold through the GW site.

Slightly less real men could probably get away with modern plastic Gargoyle wings.

Is the finecast one a separate piece on the jump lord like it is on the metal one? Edit: nevermind, I looked closer at the wings above and they look skeletal enough. Please tell me that they are plastic and not metal, as making the membrane ragged and torn will be difficult with metal. I am essentially thinking a bony skeleton wing with ragged torn membrane. jadebullet fucked around with this message at 19:59 on Mar 22, 2016 |

There's also the plastic winged packs from the hilariously bad old Possessed box, but at 2 in a box for $33 it's probably worth scouring ebay.

I am liking the look of the new gargoyle wings. I think I might go with those and bone them up a bit while getting rid of the Nid feel.

The wings in the photo above only come in metal and aren't super-easy to get. I wouldn't recommend them, particularly for a plastic model (all of those models are metal), and particularly not for cutting up the membrane part. richyp posted:There's also the plastic winged packs from the hilariously bad old Possessed box, but at 2 in a box for $33 it's probably worth scouring ebay. Well, there is nothing stopping you from picking up the game right now and playing it since it is in early access beta on steam. Though, you are right about it killing hobby progress. In regard to wings, do you guys have any suggestion on what to do about the power pack back pack which will be hard to mount in addition to the wings? Or should I just use the wings as evidence that he is beyond the need of powering his armor with anything other than the warp?

Be sure to equip him with an aura of dark glory, at the very least, to further represent. If you wanted to put in real work, you could model backpack parts around the wings though, and mimic what's going on with models like the Gal Vorbak, but that's going to be a lot of extra work and I don't know how good it will look.

1. I am a big dumb idiot baby who can not be trusted with money and so I bought into the alpha of Eternal Crusade. If $25 is an okay price point for you, you too can be a big dumb idiot baby and get the game from notorious shady key dealer G2Play. 2. It looks like the Space Hulk Deathwing crew gave an interview earlier this month with some details (some of which are not great). Off the top of my head, there are three classes which basically break down to Librarian, Apothecary, and Heavy (they called it Death Watch but that seems off). Libs get Force weapons and psychic powers, "Death Watch" get heavy weapons, and Apothecaries get some ability to auto-revive themselves. They said that they were looking into allowing Apothecaries to revive other players but hadn't implemented that yet. There are multiple flavors of Stealers but they all look fairly similar, and they fulfill various undescribed niches in the multiplayer. Finally you can equip wargear and weapons on either arm independently of each other save for a few paired items like lightning claws, and you unlock better weapons via skill point expenditure. Will link later when not phonepostin'.

Mono-pose character models only for Libbys. The Grey Knight kits are really easy to raid for parts though, they've got the psychic hoods, staves, what-have you. And it's all cross compatible with every other Space Marine kit.

Ahahaha, what the poo poo GW? I just finally got around to picking up the 7th ed books and getting up to date, and I swear I was about to return them because I thought my copy was all dirty. But I guess that's just like, the design? What were they thinking? I mean I get that its all grimdark but the top of the slip case seriously looks like somebody just spilled topsoil all over it and then wiped it off. I guess that's the idea, but jeeze, when I drop a bunch of money for fancy new books I really don't want them to look like they've been buried.

The current clamshell Librarian is pretty slick, beside the old man head they decided to go with which doesn't really do it for me. Also with a little modification the Librarian from the new Overkill set is actually pretty nice, though you'd need to make a staff for that one.

Crossposting from the Oath Trek thread. I have finished my Blood Slaughterer. I have to say, it was a really fun kit to put together and paint. i really like how the machinery and tubing has skulls and skeletal arms intertwined in it. Overall I am really happy with how it turned out. My intention is to run it as a Maulerfiend.
