I'm aggressively wrong about everything!
So, they just released the first piece of DLC and still haven't come out with the construction kit, four months after the game was released, right?

Just checking.

Some thoughts on the new DLC:

Pros:

Robot companion building is interesting.
Customizing robot companions is neat when you're teching up through the modules.
A few new things to shoot at.
A few new weapons.

Cons:

Robots are loud and never stop making noise.
Linear plot with two perfunctory outcomes.
Most robot design choices wind up tunneling you toward a few modules that are always the best.
The DLC consists of three encounters and one large dungeon. It's about two hours of things to shoot at.
I play a stealth Lone Wanderer character and if you're like me, you'll not get much out of new companions, especially ones lacking in unique personality.

My metric for determining a game's value is "Would the game's cost in movie tickets entertain me more substantially?" and for this one I would: maybe, depending on how good the movie was.

Final score, rounding down:
Automatron ≠ Movie Ticket

disappointed DLC didn't recognize Grognak, and at least thus far I haven't located the Antagonizer outfit. While I like the fact it recognizes The Shroud, the wanderers piss poor improve skills and character acting just kills the convos. Wanderer's Shroud performance improving with Charisma or something would be nice way to fix the prob. Still think this DLC is well worth the purchase, but more for future playthroughs and Far Harbor. Still holding out hope I can find a secret to make Jezebel not be such a bitch; at least I can make unlimited companions now

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
I've only played a bit of the DLC, mainly just found Ada and tinkered with the robot-maker.

RE: the robot-maker, even better than giving Codsworth assaultron legs is protectron legs. He just looks so stupid and runty. I'm assuming you get the more baller sentry upgrades later? Also, for people who've finished the DLC, are there different personalities for the automatrons you can build? The random one I built was pretty generic even after I told him to activate his personality.

RE: the difficulty, I'm only Level 16 and these fuckers don't play around, I was headed to the new dungeon and got jumped by like seven bots, at least one of which was way over my level. I'm considering starting a new game just to incorporate a build with Robotics Expert, not only for the modding but to get an edge in combat.

Also, I hit a new random encounter south of Diamond City where two inert bots were laying there, but they got up and attacked when I got close. That's not particularly memorable, but what's crazy is that I jumped over a freeway overpass to get away, and they jumped after me. It only took ten games and two decades, but Bethesda has finally created an enemy who jumps.

Anyone know how to give robots personality? One asked for it's personality to be turned on and she does seem more personable but none of the others are offering the option.

I think personality is linked to specific voice modules. The male/female and...synthesised? versions always give me the option to turn on personalities. Assaultron, Sentrybot and the various clickbot voices don't. Hell I modded a bot with personality on to sentrybot voice and it lost it's personality.

So I take it that this DLC won't be my cup of tea if I gave less than zero shits about the settlement building aspect of the game? It looks like a honestly pretty cool robot building mechanic that is ultimately pointless because the settlement system is unnecessary.

I thought I had managed to get the Mechanist to come out and talk to me peacefully, but as soon as they left their room they turned hostile. I have a suspicion the mentats that make enemies glow caused her to turn hostile, as some people were reporting similar stuff happening with the power armor HUD upgrade. RIP the mechanist, killed by poor quality control.

Just a theory, I think they count towards your max number of settlers but they aren't assigned a job automatically so they're literally driving out all the job havers and being lazy shits.

Did it pick tatos? If so, did that bot have usable hands/graspers or was it picking with the ends of two gun barrels?

I was at the new Automaton settlement and I only had enough materials for a basebot. I built him and sent him on a supply run and was instantly able to upgrade him fully.

You can assign any bot to a guard post or farming in a settlement. The majority of them do not have correct animations to do farming (i think only mr handy with handy arms do?) and just stand there. They are working though. AFAIK, only bots with legs will enter guard posts but they all patrol between them.

Yeah, pretty much. Also blacksmithing.

I'll be on the last mission tonight but so far I think the DLC is a fun addition. It has added a strange new glitch, though. I was given the option to hack and pickpocket from a distance numerous times when zoomed in with a recon scope. I hacked the Gorgon through two walls and I couldn't even see it, the options just appeared on screen for me

I'm going to take the Shroud costume along for the final confrontation.
