There's a thread on the forum called Trolls/griefers etc where the posters are trying to follow the letter of the law, rather than the spirit of it.

They're coming for our Butts!

thevampinator posted:

One of the things is trolls can cause problems sometimes drive people from the game, the longest term players are the rp community players they really need to punish harshly those that troll rp. Example, in elder scrolls online, those that troll rp will get hit with a ban. They do take that seriously so yeah I would like to see more efforts maybe getting more support staff to finally take care or warn those clowns if they do it again they will have permanent account ban. They might think they lose money by permabaning these people but it will get them more money because rpers will come in and spend money for items. This is what they need to do, I would like to see risa full of rp a few areas are just perfect for this. But those trolls keep players away so how can you have a active rp community when you have people doing what they are doing to troll others away.
Thing of it is, the trolls do cheat pwe of money when they drive players that will most likly buy items away.
Assuming that the pERPs that managed to get the game running on their toasters, would somehow be the cornerstone of the income generated in STO is laughable.

thevampinator posted:

They would make more money just by taking care of the problem makers, no matter how much they may have helped the player base which is not much they still need to punish those that ruin the fun of those wanting to experience the lore and make their own contributions to it through fan made stuff.

So I called someone "ffing noob" yesterday, and like a big crybaby that person reported me. Now since I've been playing practically since beta I never received a warning email from PWE, because let's be frank, everyone is cursing in online games all the time. STO is furthermore filled with trolls/griefers, exploiters, glitchers, leechers, worse insulters and even hackers and other more malicious people of the worst kind that roam freely and unchecked, and of whom some of them I actually know the handle names (they've been around for years). I could report them any day, but I'm not that kind of person. Let Cryptic see for themselves and handle it i'd say.

I understand my language was a violation, and I don't condone profanity myself actually, but this has to be the violation of practically half the population in the game (or any game). And also take a moment to realize *why* I said what I said; when someone is being pushed there is expected to be a reaction. This is how reality works. The matter was in my opinion improperly investigated.

I hope I have raised awareness as to why I received an warning email for the first time 5-6 years to something completely trivial. Censorship based on feelings and the random whims of every lowest common denominator, rather on solid facts is not the way it should be. It's highly abusive.

Having tinkered with it on Tribble I can say that it's very similar to what the skill system already does, it doesn't really do much to re-balance the game and you'll probably wind up taking the same basic skills that you do now. It DOES add a few ability micro-selections into the mix (you get a "perk" of a sort based on how many points you've spent in each of the three major trees) there is an ultimate perk/unlock for the spending most of your points in one specialization.

People are overreacting to the change like you might expect, most of what I hear on Holodeck is negative (but it could be who I listen to), what chatter I've listened to on Tribble has been largely "meh".

In the end people will probably wind up tweaking builds based around the unlocks, but as I said, very little is going to change, and it seems unlikely people will be spending their "points" in radically different directions as the basic bones of the system seem to be the same as they have always been.

Unless they have changed it (I admit it's been a while) there is a level-up console on Drozona on Tribble, if your curious about the new system make a newbie, fly to Drozona, level it up and see it yourself. It doesn't take that long to do honestly, and I'm surprised more people haven't. Most of the panic I've seen has come from people who for whatever reason haven't even looked at it on the test server, even briefly. Odd since Cryptic went out of their way to make it so people could easily level up toons to check it out.

I hope this helps.
