Nah, characters are only 100k, which you can get just by doing story mode with 10 characters (should take you about an hour, collectively, to do it with everyone). Until the store is up, though, Alex himself is free to use. I like how some of the story modes are only 2 fights long, and a few even have a shot of a character getting ready to fight another character, but then you don't actually fight the fight the story just ends. It's like shouting MINIMAL EFFORT through a bullhorn.

I don't like to say stuff like this because I know people who work on these games have to work like crazy probably, but I feel like I could whip up a story mode of the SFV caliber for one character in a week. The art would be worse but I could probably figure out how to do it.

Ever read a comic where the artist had to take a month off and some substitute guy was hired at the last minute to crank out twenty pages of full color artwork as fast as possible? And all of a sudden Cyclops and the gang all look like Hong Kong knockoff toys? That's SF5 Story Mode.

tbh i dont mind the little story thingies for each character (i even like them conceptually), i just wish the fights in them had something else going on and the art wasnt made in 10 seconds. they make way way way more sense than an arcade mode for stories. there should have been a separate arcade mode tho (with something else going on at the beginning/ending)

It'd also be cool if you had to beat up giant letters to enter your name for the high score list but that's a bit much.

The current story mode is obviously something thrown together at the last minute when it was decided the game would be released well before the proper cinematic mode was ready.
