Just get this book: http://www.amazon.com/ITIL-Foundation-Exam-Study-Guide/dp/1119942756, read it without trying to fall asleep and take the test. Its not a particularly hard one, just lots of acronyms and vocabulary to learn.

I took the test without studying and passed just by using common sense. And it's totally worthless. Why are you getting ITIL anyways? My job required it, and therefore paid for it. Otherwise I wouldn't have it.

Vulture Culture posted:The take-home truism from Office Space is that if you walk around like you'd have another job tomorrow if the company fired you, they'll often consider why that would be and if they've undervalued you. Truth. Your management is taking their cues about your value from you. How much any one employee is actually worth is hard to quantify and most companies don't bother doing it, so your actions become the main indicator. If you act like you're valuable enough to say no and push back then often they will take for granted that you're correct.

It's almost like not being a door mat is a good thing. My wife was asked if she wanted to take on a roll as a team lead at her job, and she asked if they would be giving her a raise. When they said no she declined. Two weeks later they told her they would give her a pay raise.

Instead of getting mad at you about it, they promoted you? If we work a 40 hour work week, that means 8 hours per day. But that doesn't mean any 8 hours. I'm not going to do 2 here, 2 there, 3 here, 1 there and have a chaotic life. The other day I worked a normal shift and then got calls at 7, midnight, and 2am. I was not on call. The 2am call was answered with a "what in the absolute hell?" - that's the kind of stuff I won't put up with and is why I just left when I was told I needed to do work at night. If I need to work night shift tonight, I guess I don't need to work a day shift, too.

Wants us to come up with a replacement or, if that isn't possible immediately, get rid of vCenter so they can get something like SCOM or NetCool. I looked at my co-worker and just shook my head. I honestly couldn't come up with an adequate response for such blatant stupidity. Wait. So he thinks you just... install NetCool? We're in the final MONTHS of a year long project getting NetCool up and going. Cost us about $2.5M in license, support, and consulting services from an IBM partner to get it going. I will hand it to upper management, when the decision came down to go with NetCool (which was actually the more expensive of the suites we did pilots for) they had the mindset of "let's get this poo poo set up *right*" instead of using an insane timeline or saving money on a budget 3rd party vendor. It would probably end costing 3 times as much over the long haul if they hadn't committed the capital and actually listened to the SMEs' recommendations.
