Looking for a list of Dark/creepy/weird stuff to watch. I'm always on the lookout for watchable horror but I think I may have tapped out netflix. Still I'll take any recs for stuff that I might have missed. Also anything with people thrown into hosed up situations like Funny Games, Cheap Thrills etc. would be good. Preferably stuff that isn't as dumb as Saw or anything though. I really don't know what I'm even looking for here but hopefully that description makes some sort of sense. I realize these genres are low hanging fruit, but as long as it's a serviceable movie I'll give it a watch. Thanks. Netflix, Hulu, and Prime are all game.

From what I recall of that Ozploitation documentary Not Quite Hollywood, Australia has a pretty intense, west-coast-esque car culture. I wanna say it's due to similar arid climates that allow for preservation of older cars, but I might be talking out my rear end at this point.

How much you enjoy it depends on how much you like Mark Duplas' style of movies but Creep on Netflix is a lot of what you're looking for.

I dunno, the episode where Electra is introduced (not sure if it's a spoiler since it's in the splash screen on Netflix), was really slow for me. Kings of Summer (Amazon Prime) is almost comically predictable in its plot, but the acting and comedy on show, especially by the teen actors, is quite excellent. Ron Swanson and his wife also acquit themselves very well. I tried to watch a few bollywood action film entries on netflix, but cannot get more than 20-40 minutes in because the misogyny is so rampant I just have no interest in seeing another Magnum PI ripoff character acting like a boss and being a purely unlikeable dick. There are probably some, where every woman in the movie aren't treated like chattel however, I've yet to see any myself and have given up on the genre except for the purely weird stuff I see clips of on youtube.

The acting's kinda bad, but I think it kinda helps with the tone of the movie. And May I think is still on HBO (you didn't name it, but figured I'd mention it). Kill List I think would probably be a consideration for both dark/creepy/weird and something with people thrown in a hosed up situation.

So the Zero Thereom on prime sounded ok and Christopher Waltz is awesome. It is not. I turned it off after 30 minutes. Do not watch that movie unless you're really high and want to do some rifftrax type poo poo.

What are some nice feel-good movies/series that aren't too schlocky? I've been very depressed and anxious lately and I thought that watching Master of None would cheer me up, only to be sucker-punched by the season finale. I can handle drama, but right now it has to be like Disney where you know everything will turn out okay.

Randomly checked out The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young last night on Netflix, and really loved it. It's a documentary about a somewhat eccentric runner who created a "marathon" through the backwoods of Tennessee that only 10 people have finished in 25 years. Highly recommend for lovers of quirky documentaries.

It filled 2 things I love in documentaries -- really interesting characters (the creator of the marathon) and feats of human strength (the marathon itself.) I actually haven't seen the film all the way through, because I realized it was going to be a neat Terry Gilliam film (I didn't even realize it was one of his projects before I turned it on), and wanted to watch it with my wife since she likes that stuff. It didn't strike me as a home run, but worth a watch if you're a Gilliam fan. Waltz seemed to be having a lot of fun as well.
