Hmmmmmm, gotta disagree with you there Derek. Onboard audio is horrible and sounds like poo poo, and the only people I know that think it's fine are the ones who've never had or heard a decent modern dedicated card. Folks who visit my place flip like a switch and go home to buy a card after hearing my fairly low end card of choice. Expensive mice too. Any gamer who thinks a cruddy stock mouse is the best choice is an idiot, and serious apps like photoshop are a nightmare to use with a mouse with poo poo DPS.

Joysticks, fair enough, they're more of a specialist product for sim nuts, but most PC users I know rock at least an Xbox pad for the more "consoley" games.

At that point, it's just a matter of how clear they are (and to what extent they at all use) terms like “alpha” and “beta”. When I made my version, I couldn't find much in the way of “pre-pro” or “alpha” information for most games, so it all gets baked into the general development cycle.

Honestly, I really rate the Soundblaster Z for bang for your buck. Don't bother with the retail version, just get the OEM (unless you like your components lighting up like an xmas tree and taking up more space than needed).

I find it curious that Erin is in LA right now. I know that's very unlikely-- but Chris might not want to be the bad guy and Erin would be the only power broker outside of the Diarchy that could really flex (plus, he's got much more operational experience and -- unlike CIG America-- has a cohesive employee culture where underlings like/trust/admire the leadership...)

I know that's probably just a fantasy but Ive no doubt that there is tension built up there. There has to be. And Foundry is basically tasked with making good on the ego checks Chris has written over the years. Erin owns most of the engineering debts Chris has racked up through countless promises and ill-chosen superlatives. Somebody has to deliver at least some part of this and Foundry is carrying most of the water. It's got to be a source of frustration, then, that LA broadcasts a weekly goofoff show of clueless Sandi lackeys and stirs up all kinds of trouble with terrible forum moderation and all the rest.

I really do think the season is changing. Some people like Erin probably know and are trying to prepare for it. Chris and Sandi just don't seem to have a clue...

I would imagine things are pretty ugly with the Foundry guys. They presumably want to stay working together and are professionals that need to thing about their careers. They need CR for the money and they need to ship something before the wheels fall off the bus. At this point I doubt they even care if they ship a turd just as long as they get something out and possibly transition the studio onto something else. Leave CR to worry about fulfilling his hundreds of promises.

Nobody cares about the clowns in the US at this point. They have one goal, to stay out of trouble. That's why they are phoning it in. If they spend the whole show talking about eating asbestos and avoid talking about the game they can't fuckup by saying the wrong thing and avoid getting shouted at,

As for the money they presumably have big expenses like marketing budgeted for and not yet spent. I guess overspends in other areas are causing big problems there but I expect if they truly start to run out of money their actions will get truly desperate. However with 400 mouths to feed and multiple sites it's going to go from Ok to ugly very very quickly. Especially as at this point they have to be operating on deadlines that have been pushed to the wire.

G0RF posted:

Okay-- so I'm starting to feel less agnostic about the CIG cash position. These recent pricing increases seem like a telling signal that short term cashflow concerns are dictating potentially goodfaith damaging price adjustments. Either they are feeling at risk or they are brazenly arrogant and stupid.

To engage in some possible speculation, I want to focus on the statement of EightAce that the game has lost moral momentum. You say that the Reverse the Verse is treating the backers with disdain, I view it differently. I see RtV as running on fumes. The pictures show a broken crew, the stories are about anything but the game, not in a confident, or arrogant manner, but in a manner of people who have nothing left to give.

What if CIG planned to show a SQ42 trailer today and, because of EightAce, that got replaced with a couple of sketch drawings of an Aegis fighter. The RtV team has to go online for an hour and BS with absolutely nothing to show and nothing to share. Ben, who was fanboy number 1, sits there with nothing to say. To me, that would be the most demoralizing task ever. Your baby, the project you cared about for four years, is totally screwed and you have to go pretend that everything is ok.

The collapse in employee moral is evident in their faces. That moral collapse must be mirrored in an financial collapse. Ben is in Santa Monaco, he is in part responsible for ship pricing, he would see the arguments that go into ship pricing. When ships have their prices arbitrary increased by $100 increments, when Missing Seat has an unexplained $20 price increment, you're right to suspect panicked decisions in the head office. It would be interesting to know why those ships had their prices increased. Where they big sellers? Did they have a large number of players sitting with CCUs? Or, is CIG going to increase the price of any ship upgraded in the game. Yet this is beside the point.

Let's return to the Vanduul Blade sale. That sale netted CIG less than a million dollars. If a Vanduul ship cannot convincingly break a million, what can? An AEGIS ship? (Let's realize the importance of CIG breaking out AEGIS fighters as the next concept. They are going for broke here.) For the past week, I have been reiterating that the Vanduul Blade sale is a catastrophe. It is not a catastrophe for the income, though that is bad enough, it is a catastrophe because it shows that CIG cannot generate sales using past practices (limited edition Vanduul ships / AEGIS ships / Chinese Alien Race ships). If the Vanduul Blade cannot make a million, then there is nothing in the CIG inventory which can convincingly make money. I see that collapse in RtV. CIG has played it's best income hand and that has come away empty. There's nothing left for them to do but fight for whatever income is left before they fail.

Given what we see here, given the changing behavior of EightAce, I think the pessimistic take is optimistic. I'm thinking more like two months, at the most.

quote:

If EightAce's comments about trouble with "Wales" meant "Whales" and not "Welshmen", then I'd assume it means some of the vaunted elite of the Million Mile High Club are even starting to get pissed. A frightening thought for CIG. Yet they've sewn so much wind at this point, they can't be too surprised if they start reaping the whirlwind as a result.

I took this to mean, large Star Citizen backers are getting angry with the game. CIG is terrified that these people band together to sue. They have sufficient money thrown into the CIG cocaine pit that they would be willing to take the cost of a lawyer in a lawsuit. The logic is that someone who loses a thousand won't have sufficient losses to make a legal action worthwhile. Someone who loses twenty thousand might.

As for why Erin is in Santa Monaco, perhaps he is there to coordinate another restructuring of SQ42 to the new projected cashflow. If CIG is going to make < $2 million a month, plans for SQ42 have to be downsized again. He would be at corporate headquarters organizing that.
